Doing a complete kitchen renovation which includes taking out the old floor, all the cabinets, and a wall that separated kitchen from dining room. I'm nearing the end of this project and it's time to select countertops.

Would like to go with a stone surface, probably quartz. Really hoping to find a place that's very reasonable in terms of costs.

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations on a good place to purchase from that is in the central Iowa area.

I have not personally used them as I still have the original laminate countertops that came with our house but they are locally owned by a guy I went to HS with. I have friends that have used them that say they do great work so throwing this out there as at the very least you can get a free quote from them

They have locations in DM and Omaha. They build/install cabinets and countertops. They also build custom cabinets. About as budget friendly as you’ll get with quality work attached.

I second the A-1 recommendation for budget friendly, quality work. A lot of the other places can get stupid expensive quickly.

If you're a customer off the street you're probably looking at pretty similar costs for whatever material you are interested in with of course some differences in services provided, etc.
I'm a contractor and I have worked with Iowa Countertops in Grimes on many occasions. Troy does good work and his daughter is great as well. They have good installers and nice products.

Have had both granite and quartz, much prefer the granite over the quartz. With granite you can put something right out of the oven on the countertop with no harm to the top of it. Quartz is a little more fragile to deal with. Plus it was kind of fun looking at the different colors of granite.

I used A-1 for my entire new construction build. No complaints either. Fox and A-1 are great

So True! I like the looks of Quartz but you have to be careful with hot items they will make marks.

Granite Castle in Altoona hooked us up with our quartz and granite tops. Very reasonable and they have a pretty good selection in stock and they will cut you a deal on their remnants.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer.....We recently renovated our farmhouse kitchen, including the flooring. However, we disagreed when it came to choosing countertops. Ultimately, we decided to keep our existing cabinets and give them a fresh look with bri-wax. A friend recommended a do-it-yourself kit that they had used for their basement bar top. We took their advice and purchased the kit, intending to try it on our current countertops. If we were not satisfied with the results, we planned to replace them. The outcome exceeded our expectations. The kit we used was the SpreadStone Mineral Select Countertop Finishing Kit, which can be found at https://daichcoatings.com/shop/spre...CVC9zW92Gw-lVC7jU8xfwIchs2-3RnOhzOJvIU81S1JZJ.

I saw what looked like some really good deals on the actual stone at the Habitat for Humanity Restore…but you would still have to find a contractor to install it of course. Maybe not worth the hassle?

If quart, check Home Depot, Lowes, etc for price.
