Really disappointed. Just wonder what some kids are thinking. I was optimistic he was going to be an anchor on the Dline the next 4 years. Hard working Iowa kid I thought.

Really, really hurts the team.

Still, even if he doesn't plan on playing football, block him from transfering to Iowa.

Is that really a concern? If he takes up a football scholarship at any university next year, aside from ISU, I'd be really disappointed. Hopefully the coaches let him know that if he changes his mind by August, he's still welcome back (would have to earn his starting spot back).

The kid is mentally finished with football by his freshman year and some you still think he had a chance to play in the NFL? This isn't a video game, it takes more than physical attributes to play in the NFL.
So you are saying those that thought he may have nfl should have known that he would not carry the mental skills. Maybe they can also project other things like acl injuries, concussions that eliminate pro careers.

I just don't get why he wouldn't give it one year of playing under the lights. Redshirting is very difficult because you don't see the fruit of your work. If he had spent one year starting and said I've had enough I would respect him, but this seems like being a quiter to me. I did the same thing in high school football. Did one year in high school and decided to switch over to soccer.

He could still be hard working Iowa kid, just not in football.

What a crock of ****. Just do not get his mentality here, he is not even going to ISU for academics either? So much potential to just throw it away ******* a this hurts.

I'm not sure how people are projecting to a kid to the NFL without ever seeing him play a down. Still sucks that he burned out though.

Could be financial implications since he is losing his scholarship. Who knows? You certainly don't, so there's no reason to be an ******* about it.

About a month ago I seen him tagged hanging out with some people and I just thought to myself...**** I hope he doesn't ruin his career with that crowd.

The level of commitment D1 football would take would suck if you aren't passionate about it. Good for Collin for not playing just because he's expected to. There are more important things in life than football considering 99%+ of these guys won't be playing it professionally.

Something isn't right folks. I could understand if the kid is just tired of playing football and doesn't love the game anymore, but then you'd at least stay in school if that were the case.

But he's dropping out of school too. I have a feeling, as some other poster stated, he might have got in with the wrong crowd or something? It's not that he just doesn't want to play football anymore IMO. That might be part of it, but he obviously wants to get away from Iowa State University completely. That's not good.

And this is going to hurt the team big time. Granted he's just a RS freshman, but he was listed as a starter in an already thin group. But I'm even more concerned about why he wants to get away from Iowa State completely.

I have a gut feeling, before all is said and done, that he ends up playing football for the Hawks. You watch. Even if we block him, he'll just sit at home for a year and then go there if he needs to IMO. This sucks.

Head scratcher for sure. i went to HS with a kid who turned down a full ride scholly to wrestle at ISU. Was just tired of the grind.

On the other hand, plenty of guys, like say, myself, would give their left nut to be on football scholarship at Iowa State.

It's a lot different situation when you're doing something for yourself instead of doing it because you are expected to. I could've ran track or cross country or played baseball at a bunch of smaller schools but when you don't have the passion for it I think it would be absolute hell.

What is your gut feeling based on? If I recall correctly, he committed to ISU and was offered by Iowa after the fact. If he wanted to be a Hawk, he had his opportunity, yet he stuck to his commitment. Things were lining up very well for him here in terms of playing time. Why would he now decide to leave, just to sit out a year and take his chances at Iowa against the rest of Reese Morgan's unit? I don't see it, but crazier things have happened, I suppose.

Because these kinds of things always happen to us. That's why. I'm just counting on it, and that way I won't be as ticked off when it happens.

I know he choose ISU over Iowa, but now that he's been at ISU for a year and a half, maybe he wishes he were at Iowa.

Sucks to lose a kid with his potential, but at the same time do we want someone just going through the motions?

if he were to "stick it out" through the season, it would most likely not be with an All In attitude. Sucks, but better for both parties at this point. Hope he figures out what makes him happy.

33 year old durangocy wishes 18 year old durangocy would've played something in college, but at least 18 year old durangocy knew an engineering degree was going to be worth it.

I just hope 33 year old Bevins doesn't have any regrets. Big loss for the team, but I agree with those who have the sentiment that there's no room for a guy who is going to half *** his way through things.
