I'm surprised Best Buy can compete with all of the online retailers who offer much better prices. They've done a good job of making their stores "fun" to visit, though.

I HATE best buy. I go in there about twice a year and nearly every time I hear something like "you need this $100 monster hdmi cable" or "do you want to buy our protection plan? It's only $10 for this $50 DVD player". I think in the coming years Target, Wal-Mart, and Costco are going to put some serious hurt on BB and I can't wait.

This is a little surprising to me since I just read Good to Great. They were listed in there as one of the companies that had what it took to go from good to great. I guess I didn't expect this downturn.

Plus not matter what you bought or what protection plan you buy from Best Buy, if something does go wrong their customer service SUCKS and you will be screwed over if you are forced to use it.

They still do - Wally-World

Good old Walmart. Some of their stores are good, some are NOT. Go to the one on 73rd-8th street in Des Moines and you feel like the circus is in town with all the misfits there.

I have been a God fearing man my whole life and have been pro-life my whole life. About the 3rd time into that store I started to give pro-choice some consideration. That's saying something.........:wideeyed:

Gotta venture a little farther if you want to see some downright strange behavior at Wal-Mart. If you truly have nothing better to do on a Sunday, go wander around the Wal-Mart on SE 14th St.

OT: If you are REALLY looking for a circus. Head on over to Ryan's Steakhouse on 22nd. Last time I was there, there was a kid with a rat tail leaning backwards to put his mouth directly under the ice cream spout (for lack of better term) Needless to say, that was my first and last visit.

I've kind of turned into a Target guy for shopping. Stores seem cleaner and crowd is as well.

Bought my 42 inch at Tiger Direct web site.

I'm looking at getting a 26 inch now and have been checking out Amazon.com quite a bit.

Never been in a Circut City store and looks like never will. Best Buy used to be a great place when it truly was a place to get Best Buys. Those days are long behind that store.

Circuit City was a conundrum to me - they looked like they did not know what they wanted to be as a retailer.

GM or General Mess wants to dump a fourth of its delaerships or 1500 and closed third of its factories. It may get down to the size of Ford who is trying to get down to the size of Chrysler who is trying to survive without any Cerebreus Capital inflow. Small world.

Sounds like we are stuck on 10 million car sales for the whole year instead of the good old days of 17 million. That is a lot of lost jobs.

Google is dropping Google Video and several other applications. That is a sign.

The 30,000 jobs are probably the higher paying ones also.
Google is getting rid of google video because they own youtube. It doesn't make much sense two products that do the same thing (lesson to be learned there for GM, IMO).

They are also ditching google notebook (which I actually kinda like) because they couldn't find a way to make money on it, and not many people use it.

And they are getting rid of a "twitter" clone because there isn't much they can do with it at the moment and it's also not very popular.
