I don't care if he is 6'5" 265, he is still 6'5", you can't teach height.

I know what you are saying about height. But remembering history can change your mind sometimes. Remember what David Hoskins of KState did to us last year as a 6'5" 230 lbs. F. He absolutely torched us and all our low post players. He was 2nd team All-Big 12 with 15.9 ppg and better yet, 6.2 rpg in Big12 play. Also, remember that even though he is listed at 6'8", I honestly think that Fizer was only a legit 6'6" player (and I say this because he used to be up on our dorm floor all the time as I had the room he occupied the year before, so I got the chance to talk with him several times). I don't think we would have traded him in for any of the bigs in the league his junior year. I know we may be talking different types of talents here, but these guys and others can play the post spots with less than ideal height (Stevie Johnson shout out).

I say play the best guys when they are needed. If Vette is better than C. Johnson then C. Johnson needs to ride pine. Not Vette. We should think about redshirting him if we get halfway through the season and we have not played him yet. Otherwise play him .

Isn't that something that needs to be decided before the season? I've heard of coaches pulling redshirts off midway thru the season, never about them being put on, except in medical cases.

You can put a redshirt on someone before the season and pull it one game into the season. What I am saying is play him if you need him. If you get halfway and have not played him then keep the redshirt on himl.

I agree that if we need him, play him. And as 22 said, not to rip him, but I can't help but think that he would come in behind every other big on our roster in experience and skill. At least I hope so or I envision us having a really rough year down low.

20% of games is maximum you can APPEAR in and still be eligible for redshirt.

Put the redshirt on him, and let Sheppard have his way with him for a year. Next season no one will mess with us down low!

Kenny Pratt was 6"4 and he was one of our best inside guys ever. If this guy can be like Pratt then I say snatch him up.

I thought Pratt was a guard (or at least shot enough long threes to be one)

Either way I hope this guy would have better luck with the cops than Kenny did (or at least not talk to the Daily about it).

Pratt didn't shoot too many 3's at all...in fact, hardly ever.

Pratt was the smallest "4" I think we have ever had. I think Stevie was the same height, but heavier built. Pratt had a knack for getting to the ball of the boards or the floor, slicing through lane traffic like butter, and somehow getting his shot off (and generally in) without getting it swatted amongst the trees.

People talk about how small we were with Fizer at Center and Stevie at PF, but then they forget two of our top guys off the bench were 6'9" (Rancik) and 6'10" (Shirley" who both had injury problems during the year. We didn't play that small that much, as generally one of those two was on the floor a good portion of the game.

Chris Williams: do you think we have a shot at Victor Davilla? He is now an official prospect on the free area of Cyclone Nation. He has Wake has his high interest but someone wrote a month or so earlier that they filled their scholarships. I hate to have any high hopes of a quality big guy is this class but he would be a huge get with Mario Little. Thanks for your articles, Chris.
