I’ve noticed a disturbing trend the last few years where I order a chocolate malt and they make it with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. The chocolate in the ice cream overwhelms the malted powder and while good, it doesn’t have the proper balance of flavors.

This can no longer be tolerated. I would encourage you all to demand your confectioner use vanilla ice cream when venturing out to enjoy a chocolate malt.

Tell them to use breast milk, it’s healthier for you.

Chick Fil A is offering a limited edition peach milk shake if the chocolate malt becomes too toxic. I probably would prefer a peach summer pie, or a cold slice of delicious ripe watermelon.

I tend to order chocolate-marshmallow malts. This seems to improve the taste for me.

Milk shakes are very different than malts. The peach milk shake is good.

A chocolate malt is perfection.

Malts feel very retro to me. Probably because my 80 year old dad is the only person I know who still orders them.

I’ve always called it a black and white malt if I wanted it vanilla with chocolate syrup. I agree, not even close to as good.

This is the way. Any chocolate malt that uses chocolate ice cream is blasphemy.

Whitey’s ice cream in the Quad Cities makes the best chocolate malts in my book. But of course I’m also nostalgic for my childhood there.

I bet it has been decades since I had a shake or a malt. Do remember, like 60 years ago, when the parental units got a blender and it was shakes/malts on tap at home. Was a seriously big deal. Decadent luxury in that tiny old kitchen.
