Lea Nelson and Chris Williams give their thoughts on Iowa State's win over North Dakota. Interesting game. Weird game. Nonetheless, football is back.

Enjoy!

Kind of a snoozer. Linebackers couldn't keep clean all game and ND ran well because of it. Iowa will run all over us if we don't fix that. Offense looked ok. Hopefully they come out ready to go next week.
Will Iowa love our handles?

Defense needed to get North Dakota off the field more. They didn’t do enough to stop them.

Offense looked great during their scoring drives, but really struggled to move the ball outside of them. Need more consistency in moving the ball.

My observations?
1. Our offensive line still sucks in run blocking.
2. The three man defensive arrangement was shredded on the ground.
3. Overall our QB had a fine game. Missed seeing some wide open guys in the first half, but Lordy he made some really good throws. Very calm in the pocket.
4. 9 times out of 10 the throw into the flat is a no go.
5. We have to pray lots of improvement happens before next week. Iowa has to be salivating to play against us. Their lines on both sides of the ball are far superior to our own.
My guess? Iowa will be favored by 7.5 up to 10.5

I heard all summer that our depth was the best we have ever had. Injuries are part of football, but CW is using injuries as an excuse.

We had trouble running the ball and we had trouble stopping ND from running the ball.

That is a decent but not great FCS team, we did not come close to covering the spread.

I hope they find a way to take a big step forward, but from what I saw today, I am very concerned.

I'm with you until the last one. Vegas won't move the line that significantly. Especially for a game known for being low scoring and poorly played.
We handled them, the result was never in doubt.
It was 14-3 at half. It was definitely in doubt for a significant portion of the game. Most people wouldn't describe that game as us "handling" them.

I never once felt like we were going to lose.

It was pretty much on par with any other CMC opener. Maybe better for what the coaches wanted for certain aspects.

Yeah they opened it up more like two years ago with Dekkers so it looked good on paper but for all we know Dekkers may have been making technically bad reads on those long TDs, for example.

I liked how the offense could get downhill a bit with a good clip when something was needed.

I don't even want to count the number of games I didn't think we were going to lose and then something wildly stupid happens or we do something wildly stupid and lose. No non-ISU fan watches that game and thinks "yeah they had it all the way".

I think they’ll still roll with the 3 man front but if it gets ugly against Iowa and they run all over you gotta think about making the 4 man front a permanent switch. These backup linebackers were very unimpressive
