I am moving to Cedar Rapids after graduation this spring and have done some research into apartments in Cedar Rapids. Anybody have any feedback (good or bad) about any of the following apartment complexes?
Grand Reserve
Forest Ridge
Pheasant Run
Gateway Gardens
Windsor on the River

Also, do you have any other apartment complexes that you would recommend? I am looking for a complex that has relatively younger tenants and has community activities every so often. A pool would be nice but isn't required. Any help appreciated!

I know The Point on the NE side was recently remodeled, and my brother had or has some friends that live there (he's 21). Windsor on the River (if that's the one on Ellis Rd right off of Edgewood wouldn't be bad either. I've also had some friends that used to live in the Apartments on the south side of Blairs Ferry Road between Edgewood and 380. Also, I'm not sure if they're done working on the Roosevelt building either, but I've had quite a few friends live their as well.

Avoid Gateway Gardens and don't even think about Cedarwood Hills or anything on Oakland Road. The others are ok though as far as I know.

I have heard a little bit about the Point before but haven't really checked it out. I'll have to look into it more. Thanks for your help1

Out of those listed, I would say stay way from Pheasant Run-ok but bad complex right next door; Gateway Gardens-bad news. The other three are all nice. Windsor on the River-nice but not "close" to anything but not far either, if that makes sense?, just out of the way. Grand Reserve-is close to a lot of amenities and very new but not close to Downtown if you want some night life on weekends. Forest Ridge-is older but still pretty nice and right buy the interstate easy to get anywhere including downtown and amenities.

+1 to this, lived in crapids for about 10 years now. Also +1 to avoid anything on Oakland Road.

When I lived in CR, rented from Kelley Property Management. I had a two bedroom apartment in a 4-plex by Lindale. It was great washer/dryer right outside my door, and was able to rent month to month. Apartment had central air, huge kitchen, and both bedrooms were good sized. At the time when I rented from them, their left their apartments open during the day and you could go look without having someone with you.

like others said gateway gardens and windsor are trashy

id consider living in north liberty if you dont mind a 15 min drive

there are many more nicer options there and lots of tenants fresh out of college

What part of town will you be working? How much do you want to spend? 1, 2, 3 bedroom? Are you looking for the college kid atmosphere or the working professional?
Good luck finding a good college kid bar haha.

I'm working downtown. Spend doesn't really matter as long as it isn't more than $800 for a one bedroom. I will likely need a 1 bedroom but there is a chance a friend might be working in Cedar Rapids too so if that was the case we would need a 2 BR. Either college kid or professional atmosphere would be fine. I just want to be in a community to meet people close to my age. Thanks for your help!

Just a couple of thoughts. 1) when do you start vs. when your friend might find out if he's moving to CR as well? 2) Do you have a bunch of stuff (for example, I have 5 bookshelves, a desk, full size bed, dresser, endtables, media center, couch, dinner table, chairs, recliner, and more)? If you do, you might want to consider a thought about getting a two bedroom by yourself and turning one into an office (that's what I did, but I've been living on my own since I was 18 and accumulated a lot of that stuff as I moved around, so I'm not sure what your situation is). It works out fairly nice for me. Sure, I'm paying more than I normally would, but it can be kind of hard to find a good sized 1BR that fits all that **** with space to move around as well. The biggest thing I tend to pay attention to is the amount of space the apartment has, as well as the price. I had a normal sized 1BR in Altoona, and I didn't have nearly enough space. My first out of college apt was a 2 BR, but that's because it was all I could find. Ever since then, I've tended to opt for the 2 BR so I had space, and the price difference has only tended to be about $100 between a 1 BR and a 2.

Just my 2 cents.

i always did the same thing so that my overflow stuff didnt go into the living room

the problem is $800 can usually get a pretty decent 1br apt but $800 for a 2br doesnt get near as nice of a place

if the op is working downtown he could always look into those apts in the old bus stop or the cedar tower just for convenience sake

edit to add theres a bit of a younger crowd in both those places from my experience visiting friends in both them
