CBS: Royce to NBA

Are we really going to be as good without him? Losing the leading rebounder, scorer, assists, etc guy along with Allen and Christopherson launching three balls, I just don't see it. That's a big production loss.
But alas, this thread is for Royce. I congratulate him on the accomplishment. Just a little worried about making NCAAs next year now.

Anyone else surprised that he's hiring an agent so fast? He would be the second quickest player to do so...I wouldnt be surprised if he was testing the waters, and he can , the period is between march 29- April 10
No kidding. It used to be every time a player had a solid season he would transfer somewhere else. We now have a coach who will put guys into the NBA and I think he will be able to recruit someone to replace him unlike the wookie.
Kinda my thinking - hiring an agent so soon? We'll know more at 2:30, I suppose.
My guess is that he doesn't want to leave Fred in a state of limbo. Royce knows that Coach Hoiberg is trying to figure out our scholarship situation and doesn't want to leave Fred, or potential recruits, guessing.
Yeah, the really good players(majority) aren't in college for the education. Showing that we can shuffle great players through can only help our program. All it means is that every year will have more unknowns then we currently have. Sometimes your talent will perform (UK) and sometimes they won't (UCONN).

Be fair here. Guys transferred after lackluster seasons, too. Don't discriminate against those guys.
My theory is that Royce has known for a while. Definitely longer than he let on. He just didn't want to announce during the season or right after because he didn't want to make it about him. I just get a sense that he knew and told Fred based on Fred's answers to questions about it. Always seemed like he was leaning towards NBA which seemed strange to me. But if he knew Royce was going, it would be the smart thing to do.
That's one way to find silver lining — bummer in short-term, but is positive pub for program and could boost recruiting.
Only off-side to that is if it draws players who assume they can be one-and-done, and try to get there to the detriment of the team. I assume Fred would guard against that, though. (Maybe with a box-and-1)
Perhaps this is why Pelle started to get real interested in us late in the year. (I'm just speculating here, don't quote me on this)
I know, but that is my point. UK, KU, etc. did not build their programs right away with one and one players either. Of course, back when those programs were first successful, there was no such thing. The poster I was responding to was acting like programs like those were built because of the one and done players, and that is not true. They were built, and now, they are capable of taking in one and done players every year, and then recovering from the turnover because they get more one and done players. The one and done players were not built their program. Being able to handle the yearly turnover now is a result of the program's success.
My point is, those programs were built in a traditional way of recruiting high school athletes, and developing them into good players, and building a winning program through coaching, fan support, etc. One and done players could have been devastating for them early on. The only possible exception is Calipari's Kentucky program......but how he managed to recruit the first class that he did is open to speculation, right?
ISU is in those early stages now. FH has tried to jump start the process a bit with the transfers. But at this point in time, having a one and done player who goes to the pros can be as much of a detriment as it can be a positive.
There is no way that the ISU program will make the progress forward next year that it could have made had Royce stayed. I don't see how that can be argued.

Royce told someone to leak that he was just so when he announces he staying it will be the biggest shock ever.
