CBS: Royce to NBA

This reminds me exactly of what I felt like when Fizer left early for the NBA, and left an ISU team that had the potential the next year of being a Final Four team, and perhaps a national champion.

Now, ISU will lose 3 starters for next year. That will not be easy to overcome at all. I hope this works out for both ISU and Royce, but honestly, I'm not so confident of it working well for either.

I guess they don't follow Kentucky, North Carolina, KU, etc.

He's solid, but definitely on the decline -- wouldn't mind seeing them trade him outta there to free up some cap space

Apparently Fred is only supposed to recruit players he can guarantee will be here for at least 4 years. He can then slowly build the team up to the level where they can dominate the MVC with their experience.

How could you possibly think acgclones comment meant that he thinks we are on the same level as those programs?

He said that having players good enough to leave early for the NBA is good for the program and he listed examples of teams that have had success despite players leaving early.

Having early success with stud recruits often helps land other stud recruits.

The one and done thing can be handled, if you are a top-rated, established program. Once you reach the level of a UNC, UK, KU, Duke, whatever, then your program is a revolving door of 4 and 5 star players. Your bench is loaded with 4 star players, if not 5 star.

But, for an up and coming program like ISU (and many other programs) the one and done thing can be crippling. It will be interesting to see what this program does next year.

He's not good. He's not even the best PF on his own team. There are at least 15-20 PFs in the league better than him.

You do realize that every player that CFH gets into the NBA helps with recruiting top talent to ISU, right? The potential boon to recruiting will end up being worth a LOT of wins.

There are a lot of people giving CFH credit for putting RW in a great position to blossom this year and showcase his talents. Kids like Pelle hear that and some of them might think it's a good idea to come to ISU and flourish rather than going to UNC and just be another 5 star lost in the shuffle.

RW with the help of CFH has done a TON for ISU basketball in just a short while. I think Hoiberg is just the coach to capitalize on that opportunity and use it to take the program forward.

Well for one, Taj Gibson, Boozers backup, regularly outplays him. The real problem with Boozer is his contract. He is a very good player, but he gets paid like the best power forwards in the NBA. His play does not equal his pay.

Clearly not, but I've read a lot of posts (Pelle thread) and there are a lot of people that think players going to the NBA is a bad thing.

Obviously we're not in the same league as KU, UK, etc, but heaven forbid we try to emulate that.

If we built our whole team off one-and-dones then yes, it could be crippling. Adding a one-and-done to a team to get it from good to great is a different story. I don't think we will be building the team exclusively on bringing in multiple one-and-done players any time soon.

Players leaving early for the NBA is absolutely a great thing for recruiting.

Plus, I'd rather have players leaving early for the NBA every year than players transferring out of the program to other schools every year (again).

From CBS fantasy points, he is #14 PF. Kevin Love is the best PF.
