Just a switch, not a router? I would think any reputable gigabit switch would serve general needs and then some. The switch will basically never be the bottleneck point.anyone have a fav home network switch? less than 10 ports

You sure on the less than 10? I bought a 16, 4 years ago thinking I'd have plenty of room to grow. I'm out of ports now. Wish I'd gone bigger
I have been happy with my TP Link switches, both POE and standard. I wanted rack mount and it's served me well. This is an old link, but you can look at the newer versions.
If "Under 10" means 4 or 5, I've used this one for something real quick and dirty
They have an 8 port version of it as well.
