Preparation continues for Carrier Classic between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Michigan State Spartans -- college basketball - ESPN

A college basketball game on an aircraft carrier... INSANE! I know not many people here really care for North Carolina right now, or Michigan State for that matter, but this is one hell of an opportunity. I'd love to see how this is pulled off.

Are shots going to be difficult on a moving surface, or is it possible to have an aircraft carrier completely still? Guessing its fairly still, but never been on one so wouldn't know.

It will be completely still docked. Even out to sea it would be depending on the water. It takes some good waves to get it really moving.

It will probably be docked in fairly stable water, and I'd think as a structure, an aircraft carrier is not very prone to swaying unless in extremely turbulent waters.

From the sketch it looks as if it will be held outdoors/open to the weather. With the possibility of winds on the ocean, how would that affect the ball/shots. This is an interesting idea, but I don't see how it is going to work.

They said if the weather isn't behaving, they'd move it to a hangar below deck.

But I think it said the game would be in San Diego, so weather shouldn't be a huge issue, I wouldn't think.

Aircraft carriers are big. Very big. The movement of the water won't affect anything during the game. A cool breeze, on the other hand...

Yeah, the wind would definitely make a difference in the game if it's blowing at all.

Those concerned about weather, the average temperatures for November 11 in San Diego is a high of 73 and low of 55. San Diego typically has light winds, with a November average wind speed of 4-6 mph. More than likely the weather would not be a problem...
