Saban didn’t have player control. He wanted to sign Brees and they went with Culpepper. He wanted to draft a WR(can’t remember if it was Fitzgerald or Megatron), and they went with whatever bust they went with.
Yeah I was unsure about him and honestly I don't know about Rhule right now.

I feel like if they would have offered him exactly 500k more there’s no way he’d have said no

Depends if you want a nice yacht or not.
The NFL fires about half of their coaches annually. That played into his decision. I’ve said it and I will repeat again - two jobs scare me: Notre Dame, and Ohio State. That’s it.

I don't know what to make of it. I do know there was buzz around the Lions pushing for him back in January, but that was more their fan sites than anything sourced. SI had an article that said potential coaches were not sure about the job due to the Lions indicating they were trading Matt Stafford, which would suggest CMC probably did not have authority in that situation. They did ultimately hire a GM to keep personnel decisions in the front office, so who knows.

It is very good for ISU in the near term if CMC is the white whale other programs cannot get. I always thought that his desire to handle negotiations personally instead of using an agent worked to ISU's favor, he was sort of hard to get to, that way. But if the report is true, he is listening, I think.

2-3 years ago I would have been more worried about Notre Dame but I think Kelly stays. I also wonder if that could lure Bob Stoops back in.
About tOSU, would Fickell get another shot?

This of the absolute recruiting advantage this story has if it's true. Schools can't recruit against him with "hey, he might leave for the NFL if you commit" and his recruiters can say "Iowa state is such a good program he turned down 70 million to coach guys like you."

Reid cannot even take care of his family.. So that’s understandable.

That’s a tough one. Obviously coaches spend a ton of time away from their family, and rich kids can tend to have issues as it is even if their fathers are around more.

And when he leaves, he leaves it to someone that he has mentored and has a similar outlook/philosophy. That would be the best case scenario.
He can leave when his son Rudy becomes a head coach (not saying at ISU . . . yet). I believe Rudy is about 7 now so a minimum of 23-25 years.

I’m more worried about him leaving with this graduating class next year. I’m hopeful that the continued success he’s having recruiting is helping, but I’ve always been concerned he would leave when Purdy did.

I almost think he would get mad that people think this way. I’m not even saying I don’t sometimes. He wants to be a crusher of nut cups.
