ISU just took in 3 transfer guards, have 1 coming back from injury, and young guards/Wing Lipsey/Watson already. If a walk on ever sees the floor outside of a blowout something has gone very wrong the next few years. Going to be hard enough to get the guys on scholarship minutes
Right. This isn't the University of Iowa men's basketball program we're talking about (Just promoted a walk on guard to scholarship recently, I believe, and Hawk fans are ecstatic about him contributing next year). Iowa State actually recruits and develops guards. I'm happy to have another walk on, though. Seems like we have only carried one each season of TJ's tenure so far. Prohm typically had 3-4.

Jeff Hornacek started as a preferred walk on. Not saying that he is another Hornacek but he has the opportunity to prove himself if he works hard and develops his game.

That’s a good point. But I like the concept of having a kid like this on the team. Local kid, big Cyclone fan and has upside. With all the roster fluctuation year to year I would not be surprised to see him in the rotation sometime in the next 4 years.
This type of kid would be on scholarship at Iowa, I am fairly certain.

Yeah, he won't be Hornacek or probably even Bowen Born (whom he more closely resembles from a physical standpoint), but a good walkon pickup nonetheless.

Maybe they haven't, but I thought there was at least chatter going around that he factors into the equation next year for actual playing time. A highlight clip of him recently saw a lot of traction on Twitter too. The scholarship part I probably made up for now...but it's Fran we're talking about, and he's got a scholly open currently. Wouldn't be surprised in the least.

He shot 47.9% from 3 pt? Wow, that’s incredible. He will be our version of Bowen Born or JorBo.
I just don't think he'll see the court much, but if he is good enough of a shooter and not too much of a liability in other areas, maybe he can come off the bench for 2-3 minutes a night just to see if he can get hot from 3?

Nah, I can't talk myself into it. If he's the best walk on we've had since Kourtlin Jackson, I will be pleased.

This guy has his own niche. Not many players shot 47.9% from 3 pt, including highly rated SG. We can use him as a 3 points specialist or a zone buster. This is a great addition for free. BTW, what is his height and weight?

Not sure on weight, but he's listed at 6'0. What that translates to in TJ's metric system is anyone's guess, but probably not a legitimate 6'0.

Just having a guard who will punish you if you leave him open on the perimeter in practice will be a good thing. The Big 12 is full of them. The defense needs to be wary of such snipers.

He might lack some of the physical tools but you know somebody like this is going to do their best to be an absolute pest on defense in practice, too, and not hold anything back for a game.

It's a small thing and more about the quality of practices and pushing the starters than somebody like Kelderman earning any playing time himself, but it's nice to see as part of the program again.

Building a pipeline to what is going to be the powerhouse HS Athletics school in Iowa over the next decade and possibly beyond.

This kid is better than people think. I’ve seen him play in person several times and he’s always been a standout. That’s why I posted in a different thread a month or two ago that this is the kind of guy you see at Yale or Lehigh causing problems for a P6 team in the first round of the tournament. There is only upside to getting him as a walk-on.

If you can get walkons that have smaller D1 or D2 offers, then that is a big win. Personally if my child was ever offered a full-ride at a D2, I'm telling them to take it but that's awesome TJ and the staff were able to get him and he feels like he can have a chance to compete here.
