Bubu

Some people have watched him for several years now. I would have had the same opinion of him regardless of what I saw last night.

I have seen him play also but high school ball and college ball little different...... I hope he does well though in what ever role he fills for this team in the future

It is good to have a quality walk on or two, but guys come on? Your saying bubu is going to get minutes over DG, Buck, Christopherson, Lucca, Colvin, Gilstrap? You guys say things like look at peterson the last two years he started all our games as a walk on, why? BECAUSE WE HAD NO GUARDS. We do now. If bubu was here the last two years he would have played but he will not get minutes in close games they will have to be blowouts minutes. And im just saying we dont want WALK ONS to be playing, look what happenend to us the last two, three years... Not good results.

How does my comment come off as me being against walk-ons? I am simply stating facts. I love walk-ons and think they are extremely important to the success of a team with how hard they compete in practice.

With that said this isn't the 80's anymore. Walk-ons don't go to the NBA and 95% of the time they never see meaningful PT in major college basketball. That's just the way it is. Times change. AAU ball and recruited is much bigger and kids don't go unnoticed like they used to

This is about right, and perfectly fair.

I loved watching Bubu in the game last night. I don't think it's knocking a walk-on freshman to say that he probably isn't playing ahead of Garrett, Buckley, Colvin, Lucca and Christopherson. Those are some good players there, and he's a freshman that our coach wants to redshirt (per the postgame show).

I definitely don't think you were insulting the guy.

Another voice of reason! Good to see. People think that because of the last two years it is normal for walk ons to play. It is not.

Bubu did his job last night. I agree walk ons should not be starters. I'm very happy Brian Peterson's name is no longer in the starting 5. The game last night and watching the guards from Black Hill State bringing the ball up the floor reminded me of him. Peterson is a perfect example of why most walk ons can't get the job done. I love Bubu though.

They are? Crap. Disregard my posts. I thought college and high school were equal. And by the way, since I feel Bubu might have a future for us down the road, I clearly also think that all walkons will be major contributors and ISU should expect walkons to be so, just like I thought Bryan Petersen was awesome as well as Sean Haluska.

Sarcasm thingy.

I think this is kinda neat - discussing red shirting walk-ons! To me; that means the walk-ons have even got the interest of the cyclone community - look at all these posts! Redshirting a walk-on? Working hard, Wants to be here, paying his own way, and pushing the 13 schollies because they believe they can help this team! But everybody is sure interested in the RECRUITED walk-on!

Not everyone has to be a star. Bubu will play his role in practice by defensively making DG, DB and CC live's hell, and will make them better players. Not everyone needs to pour in the points and have their name announced before a game to be a solid contributor...be it on the floor of Hilton or the floor of the practice facility.

And based on what we saw last night and the way coach described it on the postgame show, he is definitely contributing in that way. It's not flashy, but it could turn out to be a huge contribution before it's all said and done.

Ok I thought I would just set you straight

No sarcaism thingy here

Nate Robinson was a walk on and is in the NBA. It does happen.

A walkon? As a scholarship cornerback from the football team...his dad was the star of Washington's dismantlement of Iowa in the Rose Bowl. Hardly a walkon.

I don't know why people are obsessing over a frshman walkon point guard, when we have three good scholarship point guards on the roster now, and every indication is that we will have commitments from more in the future.

Ok im sure there are thousands of examples of how walk on's turn into stars but lets not get out of control with bulu..... this is gonna turn into bo williams hype shortly

I thought he played great. He took care of the ball, made good passes, and seemed to be in position on defense. Of course by the time he got in, the other team appeared to be pretty much wore out, but he played quick enough and smart enough to have the potential to develop into a decent player.

Give him a redshirt and some time in the weight room, and he'll see alot more of the floor before he graduates.

On the point of walkons, I don't buy all the BS that it happens today with much less frequency. Yes, the research is much more prevalant, and club ball is a much bigger deal today, but the fact has never changed that you are recruiting 17-18 year old kids who often develop physically and mentally at different rates. From a physical standpoint, it's not as big of a deal for a guard, but can make a huge difference for a post player.

So Bubu will redshirt making him a redshirt freshman next year. DG, Buck all upperclassmen and Colvin a sophomore. You really don't think he has a future? The kid is biologically just entering his senior year in HS so give him a chance to develop before relegating him to "just a walk-on".

Good point about his age and I tend to agree with some others he is no ordinary walk-on. He sure as heck didn't look the part of a walkon last night. I think his upside is very good given his smarts, quickness, strength, and skill level and it's my understanding his primary sport for most of his athletic career has been soccer, not football. He looked at ease running the team from the point.

this is true and if im not mistaken he had soccer scholly offers out there too

and that is also one of the reasons he wasnt recruited hard in bball

Your right. Im not saying he doesnt have a future. But if Mac keeps on recruiting quality players like this years class i think it will be tough for bubu to get serious playing time. Also, lets hope he sticks it out for 4-5 years not to many walkons do that.
