Bill Clinton was not found guilty of perjury. In fact he didn't he have a perjury trial. Clinton went through the impeachment process from which he was acquitted. He was then cited for contempt of court in the Paula Jones case and paid a $90,000 fine and gave up his license to practice law for a while (I believe).
Scooter Libby is the last big name found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice. Bush commuted his prison sentence.
Wonder when the charges will be filed against Rafael Palmeiro and Mark McGwire. After all, equal justice under the law. They both testified in front of the Senate and said the same things as Bonds. Palmeiro then tested positive for steroids later.
This will be a difficult case to prove. Easy to indict. Difficult to get a guilty verdict. It is basically all grandstanding. And a big waste of time and money. By the way, I am not a fan of Barry Bonds.
The circumstances between Barry Bonds and Palmeiro and McGwire differ.
Barry Bonds provided testimony to a Grand Jury after being instructed to tell the truth. Bonds was instructed that whatever he told the grand jury could not be used to prosecute him for a crime, as long he told the truth.
