Caught this in USA Today. Neil Reed, player Bob Knight choked in 1997, dies

Sad deal for such a youing man to die of a Heart Attack. He was one of the reasons Bobby Knight lost his job at Indiana.

I remember at the time it occured Neil's dad was an Assistant coach at Iowa State under either Tim Floyd or Larry Eustachy. Really feel for him as you never want to see a son go before you.

The thread title almost makes it sound as if Bobby Knight is responsible.

I was hoping to see Knight's reaction/comments here. At the time this came out his team voted him off the squad even after 90+ starts and a near 10 points per game avg. Penn State-esque move.

I totally forgot about the ISU connection.

Terry (Neil's dad) actually lived down the hall from me in my apartment while he was on Floyd's staff. I used to joke with him about getting his kid to transfer to ISU. He'd say,"Naw, he likes playin' for The General." That must have been before the incident.

Neil would sometimes visit and I'd see him around the apartment building. I think he even worked out with the Clones a few times when he was in town.

Anyway, very sad, they seemed like a nice family.
