Guy had an amazing knack to take a brief pause before following up with the punch line. Let the anticipation build

The 1971 movie, Cold Turkey, which Newhart appeared in was filmed in Greenfield and Winterset and was a bomb at the box office.
I fixed it for you. Also, I knew a kid from Greenfield by the name of Jim Fees who was on my floor in college.

Besides being a brilliant comedian, Newhart was also a HUGE Cubs fan, I know there a lot of us here at CF. After Bill Murray and maybe Eddie Vedder, probably the most well-known celebrity Cub fan.

Yeah, that little pause, that reply with the first word kind of half-started and then continued ("an-and...", "s-so...") where he was basically just trying not to react to whatever stupidity or insanity he was faced with, but was filled with incredulity, sadness, and yet empathy for the idiot all at once.

A clip with all my favs from his show including Larry, Daryl and Daryl.

You knew when he picked up the phone it would be ridiculous and how the act would go, but you tuned in because you knew it would be fantastic.

And then when these three walked in...

So sad. Just ordered the DVD set of his first series. It is next in our lunch time sitcom viewing habit. (Currently finishing up Alf).

I will definitely relish it all the more.

RIP, Bob

The Bob Newhart Show? I love that show...the theme song montage is a great representation of Chicago in the 70s! IMO that show might be a tad bit better than Newhart!
