Big 12 lineup

Briceno got teched by the lowest ranked guy to earn an allocation for the Big XII at 149. And by a guy who didn't earn an allocation. I don't think that there's all that much on the line if they give somebody else a shot at the weight. Anybody other than a miraculously healed Moreno is gonna be a bottom seed at 149.

The first thing you notice when you see these pre-seeds is Zeke Moisey. Despite suffering a gruesome injury a few weeks ago, from what I understand Moisey will weigh in, but not wrestle to ensure that he gets a wild card to the NCAA Tournament, The absence of Moisey will free up another spot for someone though.

I wonder how they'll seed him then? Especially after what happened with Gabe last year I hope they give him the #10 seed and bump everybody up one. That would actually be really good for Larson, too. I have him as the #8 seed so bumping him up to #7 would mean he essentially would get a first round bye (since Moisey would presumably step on to the mat and then forfeit).
If they seed him where he'd be if he was uninjured the advantage goes to the #6 seed (I think that'll be Tolbert of Utah Valley) who would get a first round bye and lock up a trip to NCAAs by making the semifinals. That would then essentially set up a "bye" for a trip to New York between the loser of the 8/9 match and the winner of the 7/10 match. If that happened I'd legitimately be cheering for Larson to lose his pigtail in the 8/9 match. In fact I'd almost expect both guys to try to injury default first. Because of the behavior making him the #3 seed would encourage, I don't think they'll do that.
If they seed him 10th I think that advantage goes to the new #7 seed. Which, luckily for us, is probably Larson. Because he'd essentially get a bye in the championship pigtails and then, assuming he losses to the #2 seed and then beats the loser of the 8/9 match, would then get the new #6 seed (I think it'll be Gillette of SDSU) for a trip to NCAAs. And Gillettte is a big dropoff from Tolbert, so getting a win would be a lot easier.

Either scenario (assuming my preseeding at 125 is correct) sets up a situation where Larson has to beat Gillette for a trip to New York. The only difference is how they get there.

Klimara could swap with Milhoff since he won more recently but they split their matches this season and Klimara is higher up in the coaches panel. And Larson could end up anywhere between 8 and 10. I put him at 8 for now because of the win over Moisey (which might be discounted) and having a better overall record than Romero.

So, I agree with Judoka that this really doesn't matter for 149...BUT the above statement from our coach is the kind of thing that makes me want to beat my head against the wall.
A) How do you think the wrestlers feel if we're not putting our best on the mat?
B) When I think of "fight" from our wrestlers...John Meeks is not the guy that immediately comes to mind.
Meeks at 149 is interesting.. To me he is more of a 133 pounder than even a 141, let alone 49. I get wanting to send a guy who is going to fight @149, but Meeks has been given plenty of chances to establish himself, whereas Briceno has a much smaller sample size. Probably some other issue going on here.
At Heavy, I think Harrington would be too small to really compete. Would rather see us give a backup like Scanlon or Swope if Smith can't go. If Quean hasn't yet passed concussion protocol, it's going to be very tough for him to earn a spot as that would be ~2 weeks without training, and he already had only an "outside chance" of earning an allocation.

I think the real question should be, what's really going on in the ISU wrestling room that puts Meeks and Breitenbach in the lineup instead of Rodriguez and Rodriguez-Spencer.

There is a strong possibility of an NJ Transit strike or lockout starting next Sunday (3/13). If any of you are staying on the NJ side of the river for nationals, this could affect your travels to and from MSG. If it happens, the regional rail lines will be shut down, the buses and the PATH system will be extremely crowded, and the roads leading into the city will be overwhelmed. You're going to need some patience and a little extra planning. There will be a lot of media coverage about this starting tomorrow. If you're going to be impacted, you might want keep an eye on nj.com or northjersey.com.
