I don't think it can be overstated what kind of game changer expansion will be for ISU football. It was very clear that ISU was simply never going to succeed in the 10 team league we currently know. The idea that by as early as next season (2017) we could be replacing OU/TCU/UT on our schedule with Cincy/UConn/BYU is just mind blowingly great for ISU....just beyond happy with the news today. CMC will have a much, much easier time getting this program off the ground. I'm sure the mood in the football facility is electric tonight (though they may play it differently publicly.)

Most inside news people seem to be pointing toward 4 teams as opposed to two...I think that is what the conference will do.

It's also not hard to look at next season with Iowa breaking in a new QB and losing some key playmakers, getting them in JTS along with the new schedule and a senior Lazard/Lanning, improved Oline and its not hard to imagine the buzz around the program going into 2017. Just need to look respectable in 2016...not get embarrassed...compete..win a few we shouldn't and all we should.

Great time to be a Cyclone!

I could be wrong but I think going to 14 is a bluff. I think they want to show ESPN who really controls their money and their ability to pay the ACC.

Going to 12 was obvious when they went to divisions again. Plus you have BYU who already is a P5 in all but name. I am not sold on Cincinnati but the big 12 reps have done their homework, I'm sure.

Going back to divisions and 12 teams is a huge deal for ISU.

Schedule strength makes a difference. The ISU schedule will still be much tougher than Iowa's but at least it won't be 10 times harder.

I don't care how we get to bowl eligibility. OP is right that this is a good thing for Iowa State football.

Conference isn't stabilized, Texas doesn't want to play Cincinnati any more than ISU. Now we've elevated a few more teams to take spots away from us if all goes south. We'll still end up in the MAC, it will just be called the Big XII.

This move is merely a last-ditched effort to prevent the Big 12 from disappearing in 10 years. If the teams that are added don't bring significant value, the Big 12 will not be around in 2025. Bowlsby is visionary enough to see this. With the ACC's new television deal and strengthening ties with ND, the Big 12 is outside looking in. If OU or Texas are ever poached, it's over. Now at least the Big 12 will have a better road the the football championship and possibly a stronger position to be the poacher and not poachee.

Good lord...try and start a positive thread on CF...

Anyone that thinks the sky is falling or that this isn't huge/great news for ISU is simply wrong. I won't call names like others because I'm too happy tonight to let some internet dude bring me down with nonsense.

Great day for ISU!

Yes I do. And settle down man why so angry? It's the internet bud

Edit: misread your question. I don't believe Bowlsby would move forward with this if OU & UT were against it

Be the predator or be the prey. Those are the only 2 items on the menu.

If Bowlsby is at all smart he'd package expansion with an extension to the GOR. Anytime another conference extends their GOR, it should be the first agenda item on the next meeting to match those dates.

I am not mad but I dont think for one minute OU and UT will deal with losing NU, AggTard, and Misery very well and replacing them with UCONN and any directional school you name with Memhpis and Cincy or Houston. Or CSU, god fobid BYU.
