Does anyone know if this was a major revenue move for the big 12 or does anyone know more details yet?

Other than Venmo becoming a conference sponsor I don't think the conference really gains much here. My takeaway is that it simplifies money disbursement for the schools. The schools will make a PayPal payment to the athlete and then it's up to the athlete to move it to an account or spend via the PayPal/Venmo platform vs the schools having to securely disperse funds into an individuals bank account.

Maybe I’m reading the tweets wrong, but I’m confused why PayPal would pay us to be the platform distributing money to athletes. Wouldn’t we pay them for performing the service?

PayPal will profit from interest earned on funds while they hold them, significant funds, plus attention form being affiliated with college sports, and more users in their system.

You don't pay to use Venmo as a service, they profit while holding your money in a non interest bearing account.

Exactly. Plus they are getting naming rights to B12 Championships, it sounds like, just not conference naming rights.

Plus the additional services they can grow and offer off of that. Think about if your PayPal and could have that athlete take their game check and with PayPal or a PayPal associated loan originator sign a loan for a Slime Green Lamb using that game check as a down payment.

Does this mean we are going to have to watch those horrible Will Ferrell commercials? Because you know who else has no interest? Me!!!
