Got to thinking about the Big 12 defense and how tough it is...but also noticing many (not just on here) saying the Big Ten defense isn't that great. I didn't actually think that was true until I compared KenPom AD for the Big 12 and Big Ten. Remember last year in the tourney when the Big Ten was touted as the best and then **** the bed and only Michigan made the Sweet Sixteen? I think we might just see the same thing happen this year.

Summary:
  • No Big Ten team has an AD of higher than 21
  • FIVE Big 12 teams are better than the Big Ten's best defense
  • FIVE Big 12 teams are in the top 16
  • NINE of the Big 12 teams are better than TEN of the Big 12 defenses
  • All six of the Big 12 teams that will make the NCAA Tourney are in the top 40
  • FOUR of the Big ten teams that will make the NCAA Tourney are worse than the last place Big Ten team. Those four are also 74th or WORSE in AD

The breakdown overall on both efficiency metrics definitley favors the B12 you would think come tourney time. A lot of the Big 10 teams rely on their offenses as shown, and an off shooting night in the tourney could spell the end of their season without the defense to fall back on. Many of the Big 12 teams could potentially survive a bad shooting night, because they have their defense to fall back on.

Big 12 seems to have more complete teams overall. These are all just fun talking points though until the tourney, and the games are actually played. Should be a very intruguing March.

Will be interesting. If my math is right...ten Iowa's 11 league wins consists of a team with no better AD than 57th. Indiana is 21st.

8 of the 11 wins are over teams with an AD of 91st or worse.

I believe that is correct. Iowa will definitely need to handle the defensive pressure better than they did against ISU when/if they get matched up with that caliber of defense in the tourney.

Although, there have been years where the Big 10 was the physical league and the Big 12 was the finesse league, and Big 10 teams got bounced early because refs were calling it tighter in the tourney than they did in their league games. Again we'll see how it all shakes out. ISU will be in which is all I really care about.

Our okst game may have been the most “let them play” game I’ve seen in the Big 12. We had no fouls late into first half in a rock fight game.
