Better times coming?

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Ummmm..... ok?

That could be true, but since you don't actually refute anything I say, then I don't know how to respond?

Am I wrong about the fact we can't run the ball? Am I wrong that our QB is our leading rusher WAY too often? Am I wrong that our defensive backs hardly ever turn around to make plays on the ball? Am I wrong that our recruiting might be getting a little bit better, but it's not keeping up with the rest of the conference?

I don't mind anyone disagreeing with me at all about anything. I'd just like more information as to what you don't agree with so I can have a reasonable debate.

According to Rivals, they rank our recruiting classes as 9th in the league in 2013, 10th in 2014 and 10th so far in 2015. Doesn't look like much relative improvement. . . .

We can be ranked 10th and yet running with the herd (for example, not much separation between between, say, teams ranked 4th thru 10th), or we can lag well behind the group cluster and be easy prey for Serengeti predators.

Don't know which it is in our case. And, since the recruiting services cater to fans, not coaches, we can't know which possibility might be accurate. The recruiting game is always wait 3-4 years and see. . . .

I'm wondering if there is star ranking inflation (similar to GPA inflation) with the ranking services. Give more players more stars, then everybody is happy because it looks like they are recruiting better.

I don't believe this is the case. The recruiting sites rate based on a fixed number of players receiving each star level. I believe rivals is usually the top 30 are 5*, 31-250 are 4*, and 251-700 are 3*. I could be off on those numbers, but I think that is their methodology and has been for years.

This means that a 3* one year could be much better than a 3* the next year and vice versa, but should give a good overall idea of how teams are doing compared to others. So this still doesn't look great compared to other Big 12 teams, but it does show noticeable improvement in our recruiting.

After looking at the ESPN Insider recruiting rankings a little more closely, I'm starting to get a good feeling that we might turn the corner next year.

2010 - 28 commits; 7 ***'s
2011 - 27 commits; 7 ***'s
2012 - 21 commits; 13 ***'s
2013 - 25 commits; 1 ****, 22 ***'s
2014 - 25 commits; 1 ****, 23 ***'s
2015 - 16 commits; 1 ****, 14 ***'s

The staff seemed to make a marked improvement in 2013. That was the Lanning, Campos, Cotton-Moya, Meeks, class. Those guys were obviously RS FR this year.

Help is on the way. This staff is clearly working very hard on improving the talent. We're getting closer to seeing the playoff.

FIFY

it's the same song and dance every year, yet we still suck. This staff has failed.

That's certainly not bad news about the recruiting, but it needs context. Are other P5 schools similarly increasing the number of higher-ranked recruits? Are there simply more *** and **** players available? Has the ranking system itself changed?

What matters is how we improve relative to our competition.

The first real "on-paper" recruiting jump in Rhoads' tenure was this season's RS FR class. Perhaps a little too soon to realize the gains? His next two classes have been even better according to those who know what they're talking about. Stop me if I'm being too rational.

I mentioned earlier we are the only program in the Big 12 to improve the class weighting each consecutive year during that six year time period.

Everything is Awesome!
My in-laws told me over holiday dinner that the stock market can continue to increase in value indefinitely and that the economy is totally sustainable and everything is great. There is no underlying sickness or decay to the culture and that if we just keep spending, consuming, and paying people not to riot, everybody will be happy. If we stop paying people not to riot....then they will riot. That last sentence is almost verbatim from him.
I guess gasoline is cheap.....is that good or bad, I forget.
We could go to a bowl next year with 6 wins. That is a definite possibility.

I know. These new ISU fans start thumb sucking with the first couple kicks to the stones. Man up. Wear it like the badge of honor that it is.

I became an ISU fan in 1978 and it was 22 freaking years after that season before they got more than one game above .500 for the year. Some people love winning, and some people love ISU football.

Amiright?

Nothing to write home about.

The day that Wesley adds one valuable, informative post will be the day the Internet breaks down like in North Korea.

good lord.

I doubt I go to a game anyway. Personally, the in-home TV experience is highly superior to the stadium experience.

Well I guess according to some of you I am a bad fan too. In home is so much better than the stadium. I have more time for myself, costs less, food is cheaper, no restroom lines and I am not freezing or melting. Say what you want about me but I would much rather be home than do the walk of shame after an FCS school sticks it to us....again.

So if this team was winning 6 or 7 games each year would you still rather watch on tv or is it they aren't very good or is it just too costly? I can understand it being too expensive but if it's a function of wins then that says something different.

IF it is a function of wins, then WHEN have some of these people been Cyclone fans that have purchased season tickets, tailgated and gone to games? For the naysayers, 6 or 7 wins will never be enough.

Most likely if we were winning 11 games I would still be home. I might go to a road game to visit the different stadiums or a bowl game. For the most part I just love the home experience with surround sound, replays and HD much more then in game experience.

Before I had HD, kids and had more time I used to have season tickets. Something clicked a couple of years back with all the time I was spending there and being in the elements that I did not enjoy...along with the absolute drunkeness of several people that turned me off. The home experience just seems much more superior to me. Now that is my opinion and I know others have differing opinions and that is fine. Without season ticket holders we would not be able to pay coaches salaries, without tv viewers we would not be able to do stadium upgrades. ISU needs both I guess.

There are games I wouldn't want children to attend - like the Iowa and Nebraska games.

The best thing IMO is to go tailgate all morning, then watch the game on a nice TV in the tailgate lots
