Better times coming?

Big 12 is down its possible with NO non conference losses. Impossible if there is a loss OOC of course.

Middle of the league isn't scary. WVU was the 3rd best team in the Big 12 a year after sucking and bringing back the same team and they will be down. KSU is going to miss Waters big time and Synder doesn't recruit losing that QB-WR combo will be a death sentance. Mini-Gronks their best returner and he doesn't really have a position. OU and Texas suck too if you are judging them as national powerhouses based on name. Baylor and TCU lose a lot and can be split. OSU isn't scary Gundy has run his course there they have no QB.

Now the Big 12 is never a bad conference and almost always exceeds expectations but next year it doesn't look that imposing IMO.

TCU loses very little this year. They will likely win the conference next year. Now, they lose a ton the year after that.

Why are we discussing football. Are we as ISU fans that much of a glutton for punishment? I hear we have an O.K. basketball team.

There are plenty of basketball discussions you can participate in. Some of us also like to discuss football even in the offseason. We are a month away from signing day.

Unfortunately, it seems like every thread morphs into the same discussion anyway.

This thread is in a football forum, correct? If you want to talk basketball, go to the basketball forums. Not a difficult concept.

Baylor also returns a lot. 17 of Baylor's starters are back next year. It's hard to say they won't be right there with TCU, even if TCU returns 10 offensive starters.

You aren't going to see ISU win 6 or 7 games for 10 years straight. Either they will bounce around between 3-6 or if things went right they'd bounce around between 6-9. So if you are completely happy with a 6 win season, you have to be willing for the down years to be in that 3 win territory. Almost every program has good years and bad years. Someday, Alabama will have a 9 win season because things went bad. Maybe we'll have a 9 win season because things go well. My expectation is a bowl every year and to compete for a conference title once or twice a decade. Looking at the college football landscape, that doesn't seem ridiculous to me. We are far away from it and I have said before that I think we win 6 or 7 next year and move on. Now, you probably can't fire Rhoads after that but that 6 win season doesn't get me on board. If we miss a bowl game the year after, he should be gone. If I had to decide, I probably would have gone a different direction after this year. That doesn't automatically mean that I don't think they can improve.

I'm perfectly aware there will be down years. Last year was a down year. This year was a disaster year. Next year I see a 4 win team, so a down year... Or basically the norm.

WVU was not the 3rd best (TCU, Baylor, KSU were clearly top 3 teams). Also, KSU will be good as long as Snyder is there. What you are saying is the exact same thing that was said after Collin Klein graduated. Snyder will figure something out and they will be tough.
