Before I had HD, kids and had more time I used to have season tickets. Something clicked a couple of years back with all the time I was spending there and being in the elements that I did not enjoy...along with the absolute drunkeness of several people that turned me off. The home experience just seems much more superior to me. Now that is my opinion and I know others have differing opinions and that is fine. Without season ticket holders we would not be able to pay coaches salaries, without tv viewers we would not be able to do stadium upgrades. ISU needs both I guess.
How do I put this lightly. No.

Not totally necessaryI have been going to Iowa State games since 1972, and have experienced more heart breaks than most posters on here. Johnny Majors is heralded in Iowa State history but only had one winning season in the 5 years he was head coach. He took us to our first modern era bowl game. Then came Earle Bruce and I would comment he was our most successful coach in his 6 year tenure. Following Bruce was the abortion years of Duncan, Criner, and Walden. This is the era that set back Iowa State for years.
then came Dan McCarney, and was our coach for 12 years. 5 years of those 12 he was .500 or better. Also, he took Iowa State to 5 bowl games. His personality mirrors Paul Rhoads almost to a T. He was a Hawk as a player, but he lived and died a Cyclone. He loved ISU and for the most part the fans loved Dan. Then Chiz. Enough said. And now Coach Rhoads. Moderate success early in his tenure early, but struggles as of late. But the guy bleeds Cardinal and Gold. It isn't like he took over a program that is nationally recognized, but rather one down and out.
So you take over a less than so-so team, with a less than so-so history, and everybody in here thinks the guy should be contending for a national title by now. There's nobody more disappointed than Coach Rhoads, but I don't think there's anybody working harder than Coach Rhoads. I will admit he made a mistake when Herman went to Ohio State, but it also says he had some good people on staff. He corrected his error with Mangino, and I believe that his trend line in wins is going to go up. If not, he's gone. He knows that. So my question is why do you want go punish Iowa State football by not buying tickets? Or joining the Cyclone Club? Football Saturday in Ames is about as good as it gets. And it's about to get better with the end zone project. So why give it up?
I sit courtside in basketball, and started doing so 7 years ago. It was during the McDermott era. Now we have winning basketball and my guess is if I had "rights" to my seats, I could sell them and get back all I've spent plus a bundle. I didn't give up on a Iowa State back then, and I won't now. I for one will keep buying tickets, joining the Cyclone Club, and giving Coach Rhoads all the support I can. I wished you all would channel the negative energy and turn it into positive energy.
We'll never make the playoff
YesNever meaning not within our lifetimes, or never for all time?
Um, not a single poster has even mentioned dreaming of a national championship.....
If we lose to UNI, then watch out. The doors will come off, and JP might have to get rid of Rhoads mid season.
After losing to FCS schools 2 years in a row, nobody will see a loss to UNI as just a blip on the screen and something we can overcome. It will indicate that another 2 win season is on the way.
UNI is the most important game in Paul Rhoads' career probably. If he doesn't win that game, I don't see how he recovers? But hey, no pressure Paul.
The fact that a game against UNI being discussed as make or break for CPR probably tells us that he should be gone already.
Honestly I don't see us winning more then 4 games
Yes, this is correct. He would have been gone if we could have afforded it.
After looking at the ESPN Insider recruiting rankings a little more closely, I'm starting to get a good feeling that we might turn the corner next year.

The staff seemed to make a marked improvement in 2013. That was the Lanning, Campos, Cotton-Moya, Meeks, class. Those guys were obviously RS FR this year.
Help is on the way. This staff is clearly working very hard on improving the talent. We're getting closer to seeing the payoff.
