"Better season" measurement

At what point would Iowa's season be better than Iowa State's?

Already seeing some of the trollier of Hawkeye trolls on Twitter claiming that Iowa now has the better season than ISU because they won a game in the tournament.

Curious at what point you would say that Iowa's season, on the whole, is better than Iowa State's.

And I didn't include options beyond the above because I can't objectively accept an argument that ISU's season would be better than any team who makes the Final Four, let alone Iowa.

ISU:
Head to head win in Iowa City without 2 of our best players
2nd place Big 12 (tougher league)
Tougher schedule
Better RPI
Better Ranking
Big 12 tournament champions
NCAA 2nd round losers

Iowa:
5th place Big 10
Big 10 tournament losers to Penn State
NCAA 2nd round winners.

I'd say Elite 8 or Final 4 depending on who they face to get to each level.

I'd call our success comparable if they beat Gonzaga and receive the sweet sixteen berth. My psyche isn't ready to think about them advancing past that point.

I'd say sweet 16. Being that we curb-stomped them on their home court and we won our conference tournament, that's a lot of ground for them to make up. However, sweet 16 appearances don't come around too often for teams in this state

Definitely true. Last Sweet 16 for Iowa programs:

Iowa State: 2014
UNI: 2010
Iowa: 1999

If Iowa loses to Gonzaga then I guess this will be the next line to rag on Iowa fans. They finally broke the 14-year winless streak.

Kicked their butts in their place, finished higher in a tougher conf by far, won conf tournament to their 1st Rd loss. They would need to make the Final Four atleast.

No -Cyclones are a better team, obviously. Just picked a bad time to Texas Tech it in the NCAA. But if Iowa would go to sweet sixteen, then it would be a lot closer.

This may be the only rational thing you've ever posted. Who's logged into your account?

March is all that matters. They are still playing and we're not.
Our program is in much better shape.
May be awhile before they see the tourney again IMO, let them enjoy a win as much as it sucks for us.

personally I'd rather ISU win a trophy than win just 1 game in the tourney. Sweet 16 is where the gray area comes in on what I'd consider more successful. ISU was obviously a much better team though.

You guys had a gift wrapped run to the elite8 this year and blew it. Could not have been set up better,IMO.

Seasons are measured with success in the NCAA tourney. Iowa can claim they had the better season at this point. However, ISU was clearly the better team.

That's about where I'm at too. Once I take off the Cyclone-Glasses I agree completely. What sucks, and what I'm sure they will have fun with, is that we knew we should have had a much deeper run then what they are probably going to do. Such is sports. We picked a hell of a time to have a real bad game.

I think we will see how both of our fan bases have underrated Gonzaga for the past week tomorrow. Gift wrapped is an exaggeration. But with UCLA winning we definitely had a stroll to the Sweet 16 that we blew.
