Wig and Pen in Iowa City

I alway liked Great Plains, but I wouldnt say it's the best by any means

all the major chains are garbage (pizza hut, papa johns, dominos, etc.)

Cat or Dog or Other?

Too long to be cat or dog. Prob the cook...one strand is one thing, but this was bad enough (the guy or girl had to have been intentional and the manager didnt care) to make me never go back to an average at best place in the first place.

Yep, I totally agree. In Ames, Great Plains does that, Jeff's, Old Chicago. I'm not a huge fan of the pizza at Joe's, but theirs is floppy, not cracker-style. I honestly can't think of a place that serves cracker-style crust in Ames besides maybe freaking Pizza Hut?

I can't remember if it's already been mentioned, but Gusto in Des Moines is excellent. I went there for the first time this weekend. The crust is pretty thin and crispy, and they have some interesting topping choices. I had a #24 which has creamed corn, brisket, and red onion among other things. I definitely recommend trying it.

I got Wig and Pen last night. Got the Union Jack Chicago Style. It is defintely the best Chicago style I've ever had. Of course, I have never been to Chicago. But in Ames and Des Moines it's the best I've had.
