I'm very anxious to try out Woody's, but for as small as it is I'm skeptical to try it during dinner times. So of course we just got back from Jethro's once again!!! Pulled pork and smoked turkey! My belly is loving me and hating me at the same time right now.

Woody's is good stuff, but their dining room seats maybe 20 people. Call in a takeout order, pick it up on your way home from work, and your family will thank you.

Shane's Rib Shack in West Des Moines is very good. It's on University out about 126th or so I suppose. It's behind a Walgreen in a little strip mall. Very good ribs. Not great. But very good.
For great ribs, you have to go over to Rock Island. Jim's Ribs.

shane's ribshack ribs are average at best. I'd say poor, but i hate to be that tough on them.

What's the name of the place next to the gas station off of 141 in Grimes? Any good?

Good idea didn't really think about that. Only because part of the BBQ experience for me is the atmosphere of the place I'm eathing at. I think that's what makes Jethro a big favorite!

This thread is making me hungry! I'm planning to take a motorcycle ride up to Ames today and hit Es Tas, but now I'm considering Battle's. I think I will probably stick with Es Tas and maybe try When Pigs Fly for dinner tonight, it's just down the street from me. Always wanted to try Jethro's, sounds like I need to do that sometime too.

I eat lunch at Kinfolks sometimes on Friday's because I work on the eastside, really good brisket sandwiches and sauce. It's unfortunate to hear that it's run by hawk fans...

I've also been to Bandanas in Ankeny a couple times, good food and I agree with previous comments about the service being excellent.

I've also been to the takeout place off 2nd Ave for lunch, that is damn close to Battles as far as food quality goes.

Woody's is expanding by enclosing their patio and building a new one in the empty lot next door. Their place hosted a Good Morning America crew this past monday, it was gonna be on TV yesterday but I forgot to tivo it.

Does Jethro's still have the Marty and Miller patio? If so, is it allright to swear?

For a good pulled pork sandwich I recommend Cactus Bob's in Johnson. Haven't had the ribs, but everything I've had there has been pretty darned good.

There is a little out of the place about 100 miles west of Des Moines called "my backyard"................awesome 90 percent of the time. New recipes can go wrong, like my homeade smoked chorizo sausage yesterday, I write everything down when I make something, I doubled the vinegar for some reason. Oh well
