Could be interesting if he stays at TE or not. Jordan Carstens was just 6-5 225 when he came to ISU and left weighing just over 300 lbs and is a starting DT for the Carolina Panthers now. Jordan played some TE in HS as well as defensive end. I haven't seen if this kid has the frame to add about 75 pounds like Jordan did but the ISU staff has been known for recruiting athletes and converting them to fill in where we have the biggest holes.
Glad to see him commit. It is nice to have a start on next years class. Should keep the tight end an active part of our offense for years to come too...
Besides adding what seems to be a kid with tons of potential, it says to me that Barney Cotton believes enough in the ISU football program to let his son make such an early commitment and that Barney Cotton has a long term commitment to ISU. I have heard grumblings from Cyclone Nation about Cotton but I am a big Cotton guy. He can't work wonders overnight especially considering what he inherited. On more than one occasion he has made the right play call while players didn't make the play. A cold rainy day against Missouri a couple years ago comes to mind. I have seen steady progress from an offense with an O-line that has had zero depth and an offense without a premiere running back. I am not a recruiting geek but it also sounds like he has had some recruiting victories as well. I know two ISU O-Linemen (One past and one current) who absolutely love the guy and it's not because he is a nice guy. And if that isn't enough I have three words for you...Marty Freaking Fine.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him switch to OL when all is said and done. He certainly has the frame, and from what I have read elsewhere his speed is not overly impressive (40 time).
He is also still only a high school sophomore. He has two more years in high school to bulk up and then likely a redshirt year, if he has a frame I'm pretty sure they can put weight on him. And if he is already 220, I don't think he needs 100 pounds.
