Nearly every time I go out of state I make a little list of beers that are not carried in Iowa. I found this link and it really helps. I then make a list in Evernote or Google Docs.

As far as good places I've found in other states to buy beer. This has just been my experience and not being a local there may be better selection.

Blue Max Liquors-Minneapolis

Woodmans Market-Lacrosse Wisconsin

Kansas City-Lukas on the Missouri side

Chicago-Binny's-30 locations. Select one outside of the downtown to pay less in taxes. Make a quick trip over Munster Indiana and pick up some cases of 3 Floyds.

Heading to Overland Park Kansas tonight. Will have to check this out!

A few that I would look at

Missouri Side
Firestone Walker-I like Union Jack IPA
Odell-I prefer their straight IPA to Myrcenary
Southern Tier-Pumking, Creme Brule,Chocolat (all bombers)

On the Kansas Side:
Bear Republic-Racer 5 or Racer 15
Hoppin Frog-I didn't love Hoppin to heaven or BORIS but I've heard a lot of good things
Odell-See above
Oskar Blues-Ten FIdy and Deviant Dales

I go to the Twin Cities a lot and have been to Blue Maxx Liquors and Zipps. Both have a great selection. I'm sure there are others.

If you're in the Twin Cities, Hudson WI is just 15-20 min away from St Paul. There's a great liquor store there called Casanova Liquors that has a lot of WI beers that you can't get in MN or IA such as New Glarus. They even have several beers on tap for growlers!
