The Chicago Bears have parted ways with veteran strong safety Chris Harris.

Multiple sources told the Tribune that Harris was released Thursday morning. He started in the Bears' 24-18 victory over Tampa Bay in London with Major Wright nursing a hip injury.

Harris told the Tribune he did not ask to be released, and later told "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on WMVP-AM 1000 that he didn't know why he was let go. Harris said he was notified of his release by coach Lovie Smith and was told that the team wanted to go younger at the safety position.

Harris said in the radio interview that he was healthy and hoped to hook on with another NFL team. Harris also said he didn't believe his release was related to his Twitter activity, which included one tweet that questioned whether everyone associated with the Bears was being held accountable for the team's struggles.

"I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason," Harris said. "I'm going to keep moving on. There's nothing that can happen to me that can get my spirits down."

The Bears announced the news via a release after Harris had confirmed it via two tweets on his Twitter account (@ChrisHarrisNFL).

"I was just released this morning by the Bears," Harris tweeted. "Thank u for the opp to play football n do what I luv. I'm looking toward my next venture.

"This Business known as the #NFL is a strange one. Chicago I want to thank u for all the luv u have shown me over the yrs. u will b missed

Note to all players...STOP TWEETING!!!
I don't understand why people will tweet something that questions the team's accountability, then wonder why they are so quickly released. This may not have been the reason why the Bears let him go, but it certainly doesn't help his cause.

I know he was injured then played poorly his first game back whilst not at 100%... I just don't see the point in cutting him now. Unless they were doing that as a favor to him to try and get on somewhere else since they said they would be going in the direction of their two new drafted safeties.

Interesting note here....he can double dip if you will as far as salaries go. Being a vested veteran he will still get paid the remainder of his contract this year with the Bears and if he gets picked up by another team he will get a salary from them as well.

Bears need to figure out their front office. They seem to be getting a reputation of not wanting to pay players at least until the last minute of thier contract or even when they are franchise tagged. Guys like Briggs and Forte deserve the $$.

If the front office could draft worth a crap, they could save a bit of free agent money and pay their own players who develop.

Jerry Angelo is probably the worst drafting GM in the league. He misses on nearly EVERY 1st rnd pick and tends to trade away so in order to compete he hast to trade for impact players only about half of which pan out.

the guy questions the organization and asks for a trade last week..I like the move to cut him even though he was getting solid playing time. Good move not putting up with his crap.. send him on his way

why didn't they trade him even for a late round pick?

Probably since Harris didn't play in the game before the trade deadline, and the other teams probably saw the writing on the wall that he wasn't going to be with the team much longer.

Briggs already got a ****load of money. He now thinks he should have a double ****load. I don't blame anyone for getting what they can but he went down this road already.
