I'm just wondering if I'm the only person on the planet that's had trouble with the trackball in their blackberry. I got one in august and my trackball crapped out for the second time on me last night. Has anybody else had this much trouble with one?

It is a fairly common issue depending on what environment you have your BB in. The trackball pops out very easily if you use your fingernail underneath the silver ring and pop it out. It is usually just a piece of dirt or sand that gets stuck somewhere in the housing.

It still fairly new, but no problems with my Pearl yet.

I tried cleaning out under the ball with no luck.

So I took it into to Verizon this morning and I think they're trying to screw me. The girl took the battery out at the counter looked at it, put it back in and tried that. Then she says I'll be right back. A couple minutes later she comes back and says you had this in water, the litmus strip is red. You need to buy a new one because it's not under waranty. I wouldn't have thought much of that but the same thing happened to my wife this summer at the same store. She and I thought it was a little shady and so I called Verizon corprate and the service rep on the phone does to. I'm waiting on her supervisor to call me now and see what's going on.

My phone has never been in water and my battery has a red strip on the litmus sticker as well. I think that is what it is supposed to look like under normal circumstances. Maybe the sales associate has it backwards? Maybe I am wrong but I thought by getting the phone wet the whole sticker would turn red not just the stripe across the sticker.

It starts out green and I think any sort of humidity in the air makes it red. It's a freaking joke.

I have had the same problem with my trackball. I havent popped it out yet and will give it a try next time. The movement is okay at times but can get kind of funky at times also.

there is a natural red strip on there - water damage will make the strip spead out and turn the whole "area" red with a dark strip from where it started ... i know this as i just tested my BB's water duribility last week ... i know for sprint they will just remove the track ball clean out the area and give you a new track ball .... kinda shady if you ask me ...

I just talked to a friend of mine last night who works at spring valley wireless and from what she said if you phone is in your pocket and you're sweating it'll change the color of the strip. It's basicly their way to make sure they don't have to replace anything on their dime.
