Im buying a new work car this week from Nebraska. My question is, do they include sales tax in the payment or is that something that I have to take care of when I leave Omaha and come back to Iowa. I remember they said something that they cant put the title and liscense fee intot the payments but I cant remember anything else.

Anyone have an idea of what all id have to pay?

In nebraska they charge it when you license so usually when you file with the local county. Presumably they will have to figure that out when you license in iowa even though iowa dealers usually do it for them.

5% registration fee to Iowa at the time you register it in Iowa. License fee for a year and probably a title transfer fee which doesn't amount to much. The 5% registration fee is levied on the net amount that you paid for the car.

Reference website: Iowa Department of Revenue - Iowa Taxes

Quote:
Iowa One-Time Registration Fee (formerly called Motor Vehicle Use/Lease Tax)

Description: The sales or lease price of vehicles subject to registration is exempt from sales tax. These vehicles are subject to a one-time registration fee equal to 5% of the sales or lease price. This one-time registration fee also applies when vehicles are sold between private individuals.
One-Time Registration Fee: 5% of the sales or lease price
Distribution of Funds: Road Use Tax Fund

This we got a enclave from a dealership in Nebraska a couple years ago. Did all the negotiating over e-mail. Was nice not having to talk to a salesman at all really.

You'll pay taxes in back in Iowa, they won't take care of it at the dealership. I bought from Woodhouse Mazda a couple of years ago.

well typically if you finance with the dealership they will finance all of that into the cost.. so tech in the payment yes. it will be on loan form.

I believe dealers in Nebraska cannot roll this in with the loan. If you buy a vehicle from a dealer in Nebraska, you will have to pay the sales tax, etc. when you register the vehicle, no matter what state you live in.
