Are ISU fans at their wits end when it comes to supporting Iowa State?

Yesterday on Williams and Blum, CW was questioning why the Baylor game wasn't sold out. He was wondering if fans are just tired of giving to ISU, NIL, We Will, sports etc.
If we are, why does every show have betting odds? We are paying the next guy for tailgate parking spots, they list about 5 to 6 lot per game. How do they get access to all the good parking spots? I called ISU and they told me I am allowed 1 with my ticket purchase. (You can buy a season ticket and get a parking spot for almost less than what you are paying tickets on the secondary market and this person's parking for 1 game). I see tickets listed for $50 at least above face value and more with Ticketmaster fees. So, why isn't Jack Trice sold out of their season ticket allotment?

I have tickets to the game, but unfortunately since it is a night game I won't be attending because we have our racing championships that night. I was hoping for an 11 AM kickoff so I could have done both. But racing takes priority because there is money on the line. Guaranteed $3000+ so that's to much to pass up for 1 football game.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread or I would have posted on it.

I'm just not into college football as much anymore with the NIL bs and conference realignment. The only time I'll go anymore is when i get free tickets to the K-State game.

Sporting events in general are also pricing out the average fan. I'd rather stay home and watch for free.

I think were following the path of the NFL. It used to be that ticket sales used to be the main source of income for these teams in order to fund their operations; which is why TV block outs occurred if a game wasn't sold out. Now that TV money is so big for these leagues, that makes up most of their operating revenue while ticket sales are a way smaller piece of the pie. I think we are seeing that in College Football as well that these media deals are getting so big (Big 10 and SEC) that those schools are seeing a higher percentage of their revenue coming from media deals that are covering the ever increasing costs of running their AD.

The problem is that in professional leagues, that media money is split relatively evenly amongst all members, providing and opportunity of equality and completive balance between the teams (assuming the teams spend it appropriately). In college, the disparity in media contracts between the Big10 and SEC are so much that any other league is going to have trouble keeping up. We are not getting the same media money as the P2, so therefore, the only way we can keep up is through ticket sales and donations.

How many crowds will be larger in history of JTS?

The team is ranked, but the hype has come late. Getting **** stomped by G5 in the last game of 2023, some people are going to decide to spend time and money elsewhere this fall. Winning will bring most back, but it isn’t instantly

I can't imagine any ISU fan who had season tickets for decades decided to stop going because they want to support NIL instead.

I'm sure quite a few don't support NIL to a great extent because they already spend a lot on tickets. That makes total sense.

I remember in Mac's early years when we had a way smaller stadium capacity and needed freaking UNI to help get a sellout. This week's panic is really overblown.

The only real threat to ISU's football fandom at this point is the collapse of college football as a whole because of what the Big Ten is trying to do. All of college football could become a weakened minor league sport of 20-40 teams at some point and then everybody on the outside would see support more like FCS football. There's not some future where there are 50-60 thriving college football fan bases and ISU is not one of them, there is a potential future where only 20-25 fan bases care and ISU isn't one of them because they were squeezed out, then at some point even those 20-25 lose popularity because they've turned themselves a minor league sports and practically no sports fans nationwide are alumni or have local connection to so few programs.

Harvest is full swing. Nice weather & temps. That has to be affecting some
I would also say the 90 degree high on Saturday might turn some people off. It should be fairly nice by kickoff but the last two home games have been brutally hot and that also affects the tailgating.

It’s not just ISU, it’s everyone asking for money.

We love to go to games and have cheap seats at top of stadium. Also park for free on campus. Not sure since we are old how long we can do that. Also pay into Cyclone Club.

Get junk asking us to give to ISU in our will. Yeah whatever pittance is left will go to the five sons. I would like to just contribute to university as a whole in some way similar to Cyclone Club so should investigate that. We did help four sons get five ISU degrees.

On Monday, we had 17 pieces of mail. One was the water bill, the other 16 were various causes asking for money. We have only ever given money to one of the junk mail causes, a memorial gift to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Somehow CF makes you feel like a bad fan if you are not paying for a suite, parking, NIL, premium CF, only eat We Will pizza and beer, and don’t have the Athletic Department as the sole beneficiary in your will. Add in the endless charitable causes that fill a full paper recycling bag of crap every day and it is somewhat overwhelming.

On a tight budget along wtih a freshmen at UW and a junior in high school, and side-hustle obligations make it challenging to get to games. As much as I'd love to get tickets and attend as many games as possible, it just doesn't fit. Yet.

Edit: I try not to be the guy that complains about teacher salaries, but... teacher salaries.
