Does anyone have some suggestions of apartments or condo's in West Des Moines? I will be moving there later this summer and just wondered if anyone has any opinions on different places.

Places I've heard are nice are the Mansions at Jordan Creek and Pointe West. Haven't found many good condo's for rent though (One I did find has since been foreclosed). Thanks!

I lived at Turtle Creek apartments out on Prairie View Drive in West Des Moines. IMO, they are nice but not worth the rent. I moved into the Ingersoll area and am much happier.

I live in West Des Moines and I don't like it. Too many uppity types, but hey if you like it, I recommend purchasing a townhome or something cause rent is too high.

Westbrook on EP True is nice. It's just off of 50th, Rent isn't too bad. Small pool and small workout room are nice.

I just moved out this week so I know there is a vacancy.

How long did you live there? Reason I ask is that my fiance lived there and her apartment burned down without a "known" found cause around 2am in the morning a couple years ago. Her 3rd floor apartment was already 1/2 ablaze and the fire alarm did not sound until she broke the fire estinquisher case in the hallway. I've got pictures somewhere but had she not been woke up by the sliding glass patio door shattering who knows how much more it would have been on fire until she could get out. Apartment was a complete loss and the management was a big hassle just to get the lease terminated which they had a right to do since the apartment they signed down on no longer existed.

Depends on how much you want to waste on rent. There are some good places in the older parts of WDM Clive and Urbandale where you can be close to great stuff out west but save 100s a month. How trendy are ya? :)

I lived here for a year: Find West Des Moines apartments and homes for rent in Iowa at Boulder Ridge Apartments. They had a pretty good move in special when I lived there and their 2 bedroom apartments are 947 sq feet with 2 bathrooms so lots of space. The walls and floors are THICK too. The neighbors upstairs apparrently had a few parties that I was never aware of but I was home at the time and we had a pretty loud party once and the neighbors had no idea about it either because the noise didn't carry in the building.

The only hitch is their management that sets the pricing and move in deals is based out of Florida so when I went to re-up the local management wanted to do something but the Florida management was out of touch with the housing market in Des Moines so the deal offered wasn't nearly as good as what other places had.

I lived in the Wellington Apartments at the corner of 50th and EP True. Nice places. I think the 2 BR back then was about $725/month.

I'm not too trendy, just want a place with quick easy access to the hospitals in Des Moines and with the new hospitals going up in WDM I would like to be near them. Roommate also works in WDM

Possibly needing a 3BR apt as well. Preferably under $400 / mo. would be perfect.

Are you a doctor or just extremely accident prone?

My advice is to search for a house in the Ingersoll/Grand area. There are many 3 bedroom houses and apartments - usually the rent is cheaper, the places have more character, and the utilities may be included. It is also closer to more of what is going on in the downtown area. I found my place on craigslist.

I hate to tell you but you won't find an apartment in the DM area for around $400 a month unless you live in the ghetto and even then you might be lucky to find one around that price. I'm assuming you mean around $400 each as you are splitting rent, it's possibly to find something in the $700-$800/mo total range to be $400 a piece before utilities. The WDM most definitely is the higher end on the rent prices.

My brother and a couple other guys are looking for one roommate in a West Des Moines house. Large house with a huge yard. If you are interested email me at [email protected]. I believe the rent is $350 plus part of the utilities. Room available July 1.

I lived here for a year as well and really enjoyed it. I also lived in Washington Heights right next door. Those are a little older but more spacious for about the same amount of money.

And you won't find anything for anywhere near $400 per month by yourself.

My wife and I lived at Boulder Ridge 5 years ago and loved it. The rent was the cheapest we could find, and it was one of the nicer apartments we found. Right off 235 at 35th St in WDM. 2 Bedroom, VERY good size apt. I can honestly say we didn't have a single problem the year we lived there. I think rent was $699 and for signing our lease within the week that we looked at it, we got $1500 worth of "Boulder Bucks" to use whenever we wanted towards our rent so we payed $599/month and $299 at Christmas.
I'm curious what rent is there now?

My girlfriend just looked at apartments here a short while ago... I think rent was from 650-750 for 1 bedroom. Very nice looking apartments, good to hear that their image on the outside is just as good on the inside.
