Downtown Minneapolis
I am starting to look into moving into a new apartment in the Minneapolis area. Being relatively new to living in the area, and me getting help finding my first apartment, I was curious if anyone could help me out with my apartment search. Whether it be good/bad locations/neighborhoods to move, good realtor/agencies to use, and what a fair/honest price is for a 1 bedroom apartment. I work in Minnetonka and I am planning on looking everywhere from south downtown to around/south of the Uptown area. Preferably West of 35.

Any and all information, thoughts, ideas are helpful so let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I have some friends that live just west of Lake Calhoun near the Linden hills area. It's very nice and they really like it. They're still close to downtown and a stones throw from Uptown. The trails along Lake Calhoun are also very nice. There are a lot of old houses in that area that have been turned into apartments. We saw a sign over there that was $1600/month for a 2BR unit so I would think a 1BR might be closer to $1000 or $1200/month.

Edina is swanky, but you'll pay a premium to live there. I would think you could find some very affordable and nice places in Eden Prairie, Chaska, or Chanhassen, but that's a 30-45 minute commute into downtown (on a good day) from there. Plus it's more suburbs which is geared toward families, not young, single guys/gals.

We've lived in Shakopee and Lakeville which we've enjoyed, but it's outside of your search area. We paid $1200/month for a 3 BR, 1000 sq ft house in Lakeville, including a "dog premium." I'd stay away from anything immediately north of downtown.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I think I am looking more in the Linden Hills/Uptown/Lyndale/Lowry Hill East neighborhood areas. Unfortunately, it is cheaper when you have some roommates and can get a 2-3 bedroom aptmnt, but I don't plan on being there for more than a year and am hoping to find something affordable enough for me to buy as a single tenant. But I appreciate the insight!!

I live near uptown and love it. I'd say if you're looking for a place to live with lots of entertainment options, downtown or uptown are your best bets. South downtown spots - Bolero Flats or Marquette Place seem reasonably priced. Uptown - there are a lot of cool old house around the lakes that rent out just 1 room.
