Sorry, don't know anything about Audis, but why $200 for an oil change?

I take mine to a shop that only works on European cars. Like the other poster said, you could take it to Jiffy Lube, but I'm not comfortable having those guys work on a car they might only see once or twice a week if that. I have no problem taking my wife's Chevy Equinox there, they probably work on 15 a day, but I'd prefer to have someone who knows German cars work on mine. He also looks it over every time and gives me a heads up on any upcoming maintenance issues.

I have a 2013 A4 bought new. The water pump failed at 49,500 miles and was covered under warranty by just 500 miles. Recently took it in for an oil change and they said i need like $2,500 in repairs at 85k miles. Said I have a failing head gasket or something, but I need another opinion. I put a new battery in it last winter and they have told me the battery needs changing the last two oil changes. They didn't bother to test it, it's just that it's not an Audi battery and so the car's self diagnostic doesn't recognize it. Basically they are too lazy to test it and feed me a bunch of crap. They also said something in the suspension is failing and needs replaced. Not sure if my problems are the car or the dealer.

That REALLY sounds like a dealer repair shopping list. The worst I ever saw was after taking my old Porsche 924S to a Porsche specialty shop to diagnose an antifreeze leak. They gave me a print out of every possible repair under the sun they thought I might agree to, $7500 worth. Ah, no, it's a 30 year old car that's only worth about $7K and I only drive it a tankful of gas per year and I am not replacing every single leaky oil gasket. The worse "need" was to replace the A/C compressor and convert it from the old freon system. Thing is the old original A/C is working just fine and will freeze you out of that light car in a matter of minutes..

My youngest son is right now in a dealership in Fort Worth, looking at a used Audi A4, he drove one the other day. Its a 2012 with around 90,000 miles on it. According to him they tend to have trouble with the timing belt at 100,000 miles and that is $700.00 to $2,000 dollar repair bill. He is getting the vehicle inspected before he buys it, if he can work out a deal.

to summarize audi/bmw/benz are amazing cars years 1-4 while under warranty, year 5-6 you're rolling the dice a bit, and years 6+ be prepared for some big bills. but that's pretty much most cars too.

if you're in the nice car camp and want to buy new/used and drive them for life, acura/infiniti/lexus can't be beat IMHO.

I agree - there is a peace of mind taking your care to authorized dealer. I am not sure how it will affect the resale value but I think it should help as they will have a complete maintenance record

Ended up with Audi. Tested the Infiniti and didn’t like how hard I had to push the pedal to accelerate and the steering wheel was vibrating while it was very easy and smooth with A4.

Thanks for all of the input!

Just picked up a 2015 Q7 TDI over the weekend. The "Dieselgate" extended warranty for most of the power train takes a good deal of the repair worries away.
