I was thinking about getting a VW jetta with the TDI (diesel turbo package for those non VW people). I have heard that they can get up to 45 MPG.

Does it do OK in the snow? I would like to put a ski rack on it and take it up in the mountains.

Anyone have any comments? Good/bad/ugly?

I don't personally have one, but I know a couple of people who do, and they like them.

They aren't have the greatest in terms of power, but they aren't bad either.

The 45MPG is legit, though, depending on how you drive. You might even get more than that out of it.

I don't know how well they do in the snow.

They are a very reasonable vehicle, though.

my buddy got one this fall and likes it for his everyday car because he gets over 50 mpg. Don't think he drives it in the winter because he has a new Chevy Suburan.

As of today...yes!!

Just bought a 2005 Jetta TDI with 30,000 miles on ebay. Going over to pick it up in a few minutes...

Consumer Reports recently did a report on most liked cars in their class, and the Jetta had great scores overall for the TDI version, so unless you get a lemon it sounds like it's a good one to get!

Are you thinking of getting a 2009 or an older one?

I don't know about the diesel but I had a 07 GTI and I was very impressed with the quality (fit and finish) and I've owned about everything.

No experience with the TDI, but I own a 2008 Jetta Wolfsburg with the 2.0 liter turbo four. I've found it to be a blast to drive.

My co-worker has the Jetta TDI and loves it. The mileage rumors are true.
