I'm going to be working as a Data Research Analyst intern for Kingland this summer and was wondering if anybody here had worked there and could tell me what it's like.

I applied for that once. I can't tell you what it's like there but if your name suggests you like Community, you should do just fine. Good luck.

I am an accountant (aka I don't mind boring, number intensive work), and I lasted a full 3 days at Kingland before quitting.

That being said, I am sure it's better and maybe I didn't give it a good enough try.

I have a buddy that worked there and recently quit. Worked there for 2 years and hated every minute of it. They did the exact same thing you're going to be doing. Just said it's extremely boring and expectations are pretty high.

I worked there last summer & spring. It is kinda boring but the hours are super flexible and your managers are all fairly nice. After your first week, I would just download podcasts onto a smartphone/ipod and listen to those while you work. The ESPN Radio App is what got me through my days there.

I haven't heard one good thing about it from MIS folks. But those type that work there didn't try very hard at the career fair IMO

Honestly, as I said I don't think I gave it a fair chance. I went in the first day, and had some other stuff going on that my mind wasn't there. I decided from that it would be awful, and the first day I went, I just wasn't enjoying it at all.

So the second day, I just went to the manager and told her I was done.

I probably would have tolerated it if I gave it a fair chance. As mpg said, get a podcast or two going.

Expectations are high? I worked there for three semesters. You can make decent money (for college) and the hours are incredibly flexible. I was often done working on Thursday. When I was there they were open on Sunday so you could go in and get whatever hours you needed if you wanted. It was boring but I worked with some decent people and we kept it pretty entertaining. All of that said, that was 4 years ago so maybe it's changed.

Kingland taught me how to be a Google pro. Extremely boring but good cyclonefantic time.

We used to do Wiki Races. Where everybody would start on one wiki page and have to get to another using only links inside wikipedia. First one to get there wins. yea..was a boring job.

Most people like it because it is better than flipping burgers and it is easy to get your hours in each week. Cannot beat the location. And yes you can put your headphones on during work.

The move to 114 Welch isn't going to change much.

It is like any job. If you show some initiative beyond doing the expected DRA work, you could parlay the internship into another position and even a full time position.
