Marty and Miller were discussing Chizik's comments about the Iowa players' arrests at the event last night, and they were reminding everyone of who Chizik's audience was. It was a gathering of Cyclone fans, with (supposedly) no media.

The discussion went something very similar to this (the last quote is exact):

Were we the only media there?

Yes, I think we were.

Then how did that get out? It was all over the message boards last night.

I know. It was Jon Miller. I called him and left him a message. I set the trap, and he took the cheese and ran with it to Hawkeye Nation.

Well, it's certainly good for business at Hawkeye Nation.

I strongly disagree. If Arnaud is the starter next year there won't be anybody transfering. He will be a junior and Tiller will be a RS Freshman. 2 year difference. Bates can than be moved as we have a dependable backup plus whoever we sign as a QB in this recruiting class. And we will sign a QB in this class!!!!!

I really don't think Bates switches positions if he's that close to starting. He wants to play QB. That's why he came here, and I'm guessing he'll find another place to do that if he doesn't get enough playing time by the time he's a junior. Not starting as freshmen behind a senior is one thing, but not compared to a peer. He's good enough to play for some D-I program.

Thanks, I hadn't found it yet either. My reaction is the same as most. Good joke, but not really anything that I see as bulletin board material.

As a Hawkeye fan I thought Chizik's comments were pretty funny...and true. If you can't laugh at yourself, then who can you laugh at? It is pretty simple...if Iowa players can stop getting arrested and embarassing the program then they won't have to worry about jokes at their expense. Until then they have earned it.

I don't know if Marty hasn't been to one of these types of events before or not? He was there last year, and I'm pretty sure he stayed. So why this is such a surprise to him is mystifying

I've been to about 7 or 8 now, at least. All the way back to when they held it at the Val Aire. These cracks happen every year, by most coaches. They know what the fans in the crowd want to hear. They want hear about how we beat iowa last year, or jabs at their problems.

None of which is really bulletin board material. I don't think ferentz would be dumb enough to treat it as such, as all it would do is drudge up stuff he's trying very hard right now to put behind them.

What IS bulletin board material is a coach who says "they stink" and how bad we're going to beat them. None of which came even close to happening. In fact, aside from CJ laying out the instate schedule in volleyball (including iowa, UNI & Drake) or the auction packages for the iowa FB, MBB, WBB games - this year's iowa game didn't really come up at all.

And I'm quite certain that the i-club benefits take plenty of shots at ISU as well. I'd bet the new logo this year gave plenty of fodder.

That was an awesome return! I was watching on tv so I didn't hear Pete's call. Does anybody know of anywhere to get the video or audio of that play?

I have an mp3 tribute piece to Pete Taylor that features clips from johnny orr and mac spliced with Pete's calls for the Run, the Billups return, Fizer dunking over Mims, a long Benike field goal, etc. Very cool.

The Billups call is about half way through the "My tribute to Pete Taylor" file. The Montgomery touchdown call against FSU is pretty sweet too.
