Undaunted Courage by Stephen E. Ambrose

This book follows the Lewis and Clark expedition and is a must read.

You'll freak when you read it because...well, it really happened.

Pick it up. You won't be sorry.

You could just stock your library with the complete Stephen Ambrose collection and do pretty well. He was awesome.

I've been wanting to pick that up for quite a while. I've been watching for it on Amazon and at Half Price. Eastern Front is just horrendous to read about. It seriously is like a train wreck, miserable but you can't take your eyes off of it.

You could just head down to the WDM library, I just returned it a couple days ago.

As well as Band of Brothers...

If anyone wants to read a great set of books on World War II, it's hard to beat Winston Churchill's six volume series, The Second World War:

Rare Finds - A Guide to Rare Book Collecting » Blog Archive » Winston Churchill - The Second World War

Perhaps a little self serving at times, but I read it at a point in my life when the FDR worshipping teachings of high school had yet to be overcome in my mind, so that could have something to do with my thoughts on that. It certainly gives an unbelievable perspective on the war.

Haven't been reading anything non class related do to my heavy history workload(3 classes), I'd recommend a pickup of the book The World Rushed In, interesting book on the California gold rush. Also I second the recommendation of 1776

BTW - My favorite history prof at ISU was Dr. Alan Wilt. That man was a fantastic teacher. I was in his class in the fall of '89 when the Berlin Wall came down. Felt like the whole world was changing for the better.

Wilt was awesome! I had him for 3 classes I think. (history was one of my majors) The guy was sure animated and really had a passion for the subject. I graduated in 2000 and have since heard Dr. Wilt passed away. Is this true?

Anyone ever watch "Surviving History" on the History Channel? My favorite had to be the one with the chastity belt and the strappado.

Sadly yes.
