Can I get a recommendation for an auto body shop in Ankeny? The previous threads on this are a little dated so some opinions might have changed since then. We will probably be paying out of pocket so looking for somebody that is reasonable priced.

Thanks!

I have had successful collision work done at Karl several times, but it has always been an insurance claim. I have NOT had a good experience with Karl on anything non claim related. Their work is good, but always trying to take advantage of you with the cash claims. That's just my experience. Take it for what it's worth.

I don't know, but dealerships tend to be more expensive for almost everything else...isn't the same for auto body repairs? I get it if insurance is paying, but OP said he is paying out of pocket. No local auto body shops in Ankeny?

Reminds me of the Seifeld episode:

(Scene cuts to George at the customer complaint window)
GEORGE: I’d like to report a problem with one of your mechanics.
WILLIE: When did you bring the car in?
GEORGE: (To the man behind him in line) Yeah right.. I’m gonna get my car repaired at a dealership. Huh! Why don’t I just flush my money down the toilet?
WILLIE: Sir, what, exactly, is the problem?
GEORGE: One of your guys - Kip, or Ned, short name - stole my Twix candy bar!

For body work I've always used Smith's Auto Body on SW Ordnance in Ankeny. For everything else I go to Woody's on East 1st Street. Both are locally owned by very nice families that genuinely value you and the business you bring.

I've had good experiences at Ankeny Auto Body.

I can't say whether they were best deal $ as I did not get multiple quotes...but they were very professional, seemed very thorough and were great at communicating (e.g. what they had accomplished so far, realistic complete dates, etc)

I've went to Ted's on 2nd Ave, South of Ankeny. The last time was just last year when a gust of wind took my GMC door out of my hand. Screwed up the hinge. They adjusted it for free. Family owned and run and always seem very fair. I've only had body work done there once and it was in 1991 or something.
