I can appreciate the alumni band members wanting to be back for a game, and toot their own horns....
That being said I can't stand the alumni band. Whether they play against the stadium music, or off cadence against the actual current band, it can get frustrating. And I have season tickets with folks who are band alums.

Apparently did not get the memo about the band playing less this year. Some guy sitting next to them was losing his mind when the stadium crew was playing a song and the alumni band was playing.
They didn't get the memo that they are supposed to sit on their hands while we listen to canned artificial excitement music.

Speaking of the band, one of the funniest moments I've had at Jack was when my friend who looked a lot like Ogre stood up and yelled out "Nerds, nerds, nerds." when the band took the field. Little did he know we had a band alumnus in our group. She was fuming all the way back to Omaha.

Honestly, they should just let the alumni band ride off in the sunset. Anyone else trying to re-live their “glory days” gets made fun of, but the alumni band gets a pass apparently. Zero point to them being involved with game day.

I have a feeling that it was started when we didn’t get any attendance and it helped for homecoming.

Yes! Let's all jump on the Jackie bandwagon, and speaker music:rolleyes:
Heaven forbid 1 game a yr a bunch of alumni get to gather and support their school doing something they enjoyed.

I'm actually the exception in my Alumni peer group that I actually go back to Ames. Yes it's easier now that I'm back in state but for many yrs even when I was out of state I always made it back for a game or 2 a yr.

The amount they use Jackie is fine where it’s at currently. The AD did a good job adjusting that issue. The way they use the speaker and video board is the future of the game day experience.

The alumni band trying to play over the speaker music was dumb.

I stopped doing alumni band because I got tired of how much they wanted to play. Not because of how it affected those around me (lets be honest most of the stadium couldn't hear them or barely heard them) but because I just wanted to enjoy the game and would rather be with my family. Hardly any of my friends from my time in the band do it either so it was pointless. Kudos to those that do it just not my thing.

I wouldn't say they were trying to play over the speaker music. I highly doubt they had a headset to hear when the stadium had something vs the band so they just played...and again I highly doubt most of the stadium (especially those on the west side) could hear them.

My seats are somewhat by them. I didn't think it was a big deal and hardly noticed them.
