Alford continued his whining about the NIT last night during his call-in show according to Cotlar this morning. The excerpt that he played had Steve comparing UI with NC State and exclaiming that he didn't understand how a team can get hot for a weekend and that weighs more than the season. Besides the obvious hypocrisy of his statement about giving too much weight to a good weekend in a conference tournament (pot meet kettle), he should really know what he is talking about before making such statements.
NC State - beat #1 seed UNC, #4 seed Virginia, #5 seed Virginia Tech 3 times, including by 11 on the road and 25 at home, beat Michigan and lost to Alabama and had 7 of their losses against teams seeded #6 or better, with bad losses at Cincinnati and Miami Fla, both last place in their conference although Miami has 3 victories over teams seeded #4 in the NCAA.
Iowa - best wins were at home against #9 seed Purdue, #9 MSU, and #12 Illinois; they had losses against the worst team in the Big 10, the worst team in the Pac 10, lost by 29 to #9 seed Villanova, lost by 32 at #9 seed MSU, lost by 19 to #9 seed Purdue on a neutral site, lost by 16 to the 8th best team in the MVC, lost at home to the 5th best team in the MVC and when comparing common opponents - did beat Michigan and lose to Alabama just like NC State, but UI also lost to Va Tech.
There is absolutely no comparison between NC State and Iowa as to who is more deserving.
