If you don't have a trade I would really consider buying from a private party. Private party are just looking to get rid of a vehicle not make a profit.

BTW-I thought you were looking at an SUV not a truck?

And you aren't thinking creatively. Don't expect people to take you seriously if you are intellectually lazy.

2002 Land Rover Freelander

1997 Mercedes Benz E420 Sedan Great car for the price of a Ford Taurus

You could also use a rental. And if you're making the kind of sales where you need a luxury car all the time, you have no excuse for not being able to afford to buy a nice car for cash.

What you're doing is "justifying" your already made up decision.

FWIW, roughly 97% of Craigslist ads which don't list a phone number are fraudulent. I keep calling on those 2008 Accords for $5000 and they want my bank account number before I can see the car........

Don't be so quick to guarantee this statement....Well, I don't know what a "Glock Foah-tay" is, but I guarantee I have more training and practical experience in finance than everyone on this forum.

I was a finance manager at a car Dealerships from 1985 to 2002 along with sales manager, general sales manager, new car manager, used car manager, auction buyer, and sales trainer. I'll place my skills on the subject matter at hand against yours anytime..... Challenge accepted.

Not so fast. I've done most of those things as well in addition to a prior career in lending. But with that being said, my experience is that the best finance managers are the ones with the least amount of financial knowledge. It's a sales position.

There are also CPAs, CFPs, and MBAs who frequent these boards.

1. I deem a new Honda CR-V or Toyota Rav4 significantly safer than our 2000 Pontiac Sunfire.

ANY Suv is less safe than a comparable car...... Suv's have too high of a center of gravity..... more prone to roll-overs.

I'd take my chances in a car based SUV rollover over a t-bone in a 2000 sunfire ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

I've been upside down before. It's not that big of a deal.

I can vouch for this one (well, not the rollover). My sister has totaled two Chevy Astro vans on left turns and the oncoming traffic t-boned the van. I was in the passenger seat both times. The worst I've been hurt either time was a gigantic welt/bruise on my left leg when it kicked the underside of the dash board. I hate to think the state of my health right now if we had been in a smaller car either time...

I hope you stopped letting your sister drive.

You are wise beyond your years

I will give her a little credit though - first accident the guy absolutely ran a red light (every witness at the scene said it wasn't my sister's fault) and was high on pot at the time of the accident (not to mention the d.b.'s family thought it was a good idea to consider suing my sister for physical and emotional injury, that is, until the same d.b. thought it was a good idea to compete - and win - his wrestling match two days later). Second happened trying to make a left hand turn from a narrow 4-lane street at a traffic light where, if there is a vehicle opposite of you also trying to make a left hand turn you cannot see oncoming traffic and have to make your best guess as to when it's clear to make that turn. She happened to guess wrong that time. I've also guessed wrong at this intersection and barely made it without an accident.

Any thoughts on what my best options are now that I've walked away from deal #1?
Will the tax returns increase demand or am I still ok to play the Saturday end of the month game??? I keep looking for private sellers, but as you can see I'm beginning to get the "itch" to buy again :(

The same thing happened to my wife in HS. Girl ran a red light and just tagged her. Nice thing is the wife's parents were following her, so they got a front row seat for that. The girl was 15 and driving without a permit. Took the keys while her dad was sleeping. I'm willing to bet her next few years were not pleasant.

If I were you I'd wait until summer. Right now prices are not going to drop since anyone who wants a car will have a refund check to use. Unless you've got to have it now, I would wait.

A Chevy Astro has a full frame as its a truck. Smaller Suv's have no frame, just sheet metal stretched over what is called "uni Body. Basically, No framework to add structural integrity.

Gee, last time I checked a unibody WAS a frame...

Want to know why I didn't get seriously hurt both times when I suffered the brunt of a T-bone accident twice? Because the majority of my body was above the area where the oncoming car hit us. Make that Astro with the truck frame the same height as a standard car with a "unibody" and I guarantee you I'm in the hospital with severe injuries both times, if not worse...

Unibody cars pound for pound are MUCH stronger. In a full frame vehicle, you are at the mercy of the bolts connecting the frame to the body. A unibody car design is able to implement force absorbing crumple zones much better as the frame and body are one.

Many people who get the itch after striking out often end up buying something that's not as good of a deal as the first car they tried to buy.

What year and trim level of CRV are you looking for?
