Game Recap: Women's Basketball | 02.15.2025

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Iowa State (18-9, 9-5 Big 12) picked up the 93-80 road win at Kansas (16-7, 7-5 Big 12) Saturday afternoon to secure the season sweep of the Jayhawks. Iowa State seemingly could not miss from beyond the 3-point line, while Addy Brown nearly hit a triple-double.

Addy Brown was a star coming just one rebound shy of a triple-double. Her stat line included 17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. The sophomore secured her seventh double-double of the season and 17th of her career.

With the attention received by Audi, I’m not certain Addy Brown is appreciated as much as she should be! We have two former Cheryl Miller Award winners in our past, namely Ashley (2021 & 2022) and Bridget (2019). I was curious how sophomore Addy compared to them in “advanced metrics”, and the answer is, quite favorably!

Box Plus/Minus (BPM)

Box Plus/Minus (BPM) is an estimate of the points per 100 possessions that a player contributes above a league-average player, translated to an per-game basis. BPM takes into account a player’s box score statistics and provides an evaluation of their overall contribution to the team’s performance. It is a valuable tool for comparing players across different positions and roles.

ISU WBB Players in the Top 250:

141 - Ashley Joens – 10.92

164 – Bridget Carleton – 10.65

194 – Addy Brown – 10.31

222 – Audi Crooks – 9.87

Nice synopsis of WBB Statistical Analysis:

Player Efficiency Rating (PER) appears to favor post players so ISU only has one player in the Top 250 (since 2002), but it's impressive, as Audi Crooks is inside the top 100!

For as popular as Audi is with most fans and kids Addy Brown is actually my 2 girl's favorite player. Audi gets a lot of the press and attention but Addy is probably our most versatile player on the roster. I've made the comparison before, she essentially is our stretch 4 version of Georges Niang as she can hit the 3, take the ball up the court and create off the dribble, and score in the post.

She has flirted with a triple double several times, I didn't get to watch this game yesterday as I was at the men's game but I see that she played 37 minutes which was the most of any player yesterday so I would guess Bill gave her ever chance to get it if she could. She was 3 assists shy @Cincy 2 games ago and played 37 mins in that one too. She's had several games this year where she was 1-3 assists or boards away from the triple double and she was really close several games last season too like that if you check her game log.

I love watching her play, seems like you always look at her numbers going into the 4th quarter and realize just how much she does that goes unnoticed at times during the game. She deserves 1st team All Big 12 consideration IMO. Her ranks right now in the conference:

Points: 14th
Rebounds: 7th
Assists: 6th (also 8th in assist to TO ratio)
FG%: 8th
FT%: 17th
They only have 4 listed for 3pt% on the Big 12 website so must be a minimum attempt criteria for that?

Addy deserves way more appreciation than she seems to get. That said, it’s my opinion that this team goes as Addy goes.

With players who can score or pass in bunches sometimes the key is figuring out what the team needs at different moments of the season. ISU seems to have two of them and seems they're starting to figure it out.

Love addy and what she brings, attitude and all! With that, I think Kelsey deserves props too…since she has been inserted into the starting lineup we have played harder! She just goes and goes!! Luv seeing her play a bit more freely!! Not waiting to be pulled after one mistake!

Impossible to defend when they are working together. I've noticed some short range inside/out between them where the defense can't guard both effectively.
