Jamie Pollard might be a genius. Or lucky. Or both. Either way I'm glad he's our AD and hope he stays for a long time if not ends his career at I-State. The strides we've made to national relevancy is immense under him. 5 or 10 years ago people didn't even recognize the team I was sporting on my shirt when traveling out of state. Now strangers strike up convos about that Okie State upset and Royce White and the bball team. Winning helps but the branding of our product we support/logo change/facility upgrades/CFH and Rhoads hires. What a change in Cyclone Nation. Fan support and swagger on a hundred thousand...never a better time to be a Clone and it's only gonna get bigger and better too.

JP's 2nd chances on coaching hires were both brilliant and off the wall, and we will still be saluting his choices a decade from now. He missed with Chizik and Mcdermott.... than he totally redeemed himself with the inspired Rhoads and Hoiberg hires! Great moves, JP really did figure out what kind of coach is best for us.

I don't think I posted in this thread (I could be wrong) because I was so goddamn done with ISU basketball after watching Chewyball for years.

I always thought Hornacek would have been the one to come back and coach ISU but I never once doubted the hiring of Fred.

all of you in the first few pages of this thread look like complete tools now. please come back and eat your crow.

Yes. Yes he did.

I'd bet that JP was talking to and testing the waters with CFH long before the one day to hire him move. At my company, many of the internal hires even have days/weeks of behind-the-scenes discussions before a formal interview and hiring.

nice bump. Reading the first few pages is pretty funny now, with the benefit of hindsight. Some angry people out there, initially.

Don't bring threads back up with this type of title. I think my heart skipped a.. no 5 beats until I saw the date. Phew :spinny:

I don't think I posted in the thread. I just remember being a bit scared about the hire. Of course anything was better than more Chewy at that point.

I thank Hoiberg for getting me excited about basketball again for the first time in a long while.

yeah, I think that's the general feeling a lot of people had. Of course people liked Fred. But, was he ready? I think probably Pollard had the same fear. Thankfully, Fred took no time to prove himself.

I will admit that I too had mixed feelings when the deal was made. I just had no clue how it was going to work out and with ISU already being about as low as I would like them to, I wasnt ready for them to take a gamble. I knew that Hoiberg would be able to bring in alumni and that he had some great knowledge about the game of basketball. Im just glad everything worked out!

Still can remember JW putting the smack down on Giggles. Awesome moment on KXNO,

+1

He started packing then and finished after his meltdown with the hawk reporter from CR/IC. I can't remember what that was about but it was classic.

And no, I didn't post in that thread. But I'm happy now so who cares.
