I have kept hearing all of the negatives lately, so i want to talk about the good things.
1. This team should be able to shoot the ball really well from top to bottom. All of the recruits are supposed to be good shooters, and add that to the players who are returning the group as a whole. While there is no elite shooter (unless someone steps up into that role) everyone outside of marsden is a good three point shooter, and everyone can hit midrange jumpers pretty well. I good x's & o's coaching staff should be able to steal some wins with a balanced shooting attack. The only real question marks are who will get the ball to the shooters, who will be able to penatrate, and who can draw two defenders. A good offense can get shooters up using screens and movement, hopefully clark and one or more recruits will be able to penetrate some, and McDermott can definatly teach the post players.
2. The biggest question mark about the hiring of McDermott was his ability to recruit. The class, while not too highly rated most places, is amazing for the time he had and the situation he was put into. It saved the team from being a sure thing to finish last. They will still be predicted to finish in bottom half, but things could have been a lot worse. From what i have heard the next few recruiting classes will bring some big time talent to Ames. McDermott will have the best athletes he has ever worked with here, and that is the most important for a good coach in the big 12 that coaches like he does.
3. They should be able to play good defense, they have players very capable of being very good defensivly if schooled correctly. A defensive a rebounding post player could only help more.
