I believe the flag runner is Chris Hess, I think he went to the same high school as me, he has always been a crazy superfan guy for his school, he always had his hair died green at Kennedy

This makes me think of the WWE dude who made his own championship belt last year after ISU won the "Mythical State Title." He wore a cape, had huge rings, painted up and had a mask. Dude even had a little sidekick. I saw him at football games last fall, but not at hoops that I can think of. I guess he could have graduated......
Lol- "WWE dude". That superfan is "superfan" right here on CF. The "little sidekick" is perhaps better known as our Hilton flag runner. Superfan is currently in Houston on an internship and will be back in the fall. Flag runner will also be back in the fall, but is graduating in December and will likely be moving to one of the coasts or down to Texas for his job after graduation, and won't be able to attend conference basketball games.

Both of these guys are really good friends of mine, and I don't know *anybody* who are bigger Cyclone fans than they are. They're the ones who got me going! Superfan, games aren't quite the same without you screaming yourself silly. Can't wait to see you in the fall. Flag runner, it's been an honor to be your cameraman this year. I hope I get to do it one last time this Saturday!

You know, if you really wanted, you could do the flag run around Jack Trice during the games in the fall, lol. Or hey! You could even do it this spring with the track and field team! You'd be like a cardinal and gold pace runner...

I knew the flag runner would eventually graduate, but I had hoped that it would become a longtime tradition, with someone else picking up the torch when the previous runner moved on.

Don't let it end, what a great tradition!

Keep doing some variation. Maybe each section passes it on the next, or something. Walk around if you have to. Don't let it end!

So what about the drill team? Some of those girls make it unsafe walking down those steep sets of stairs? There are safety issues with everything...

What about the band during football games...moving in the upper deck aisles with those instruments has to be dangerous as well.

Who is the one that said flagrunner can't run anymore?

Superfan.....since I have finally unmasked you as being the "WWE guy", how do you plan to recapture that beautiful State Title Belt that you so proudly displayed last year....are foreign objects involved???? I hope so, good luck! Loved the PS2 pic on NCAA Football 2007.

This is bull, I say you do it again next year, and see what they do. And if they kick you out, or arrest you. We hold a walk-out! and then we riot! we're pretty good at riots. And if they arrest you, we'll come bail you out too.

I could see it on the news now..."Riot breaks out at Iowa State after flag runner ejected"

they've done stuff like that in the past after cheerleaders get hurt... I know in Nebraska I think it was one year they couldn't go more than one and a half people high and none of the tosses... And I coulda swore there were things here at ISU that were banned too... but I think they lifted some of it so they can do cool stuff again... not sure on all the rules... but I remember the cheer coach mentioning it to me once

Time for a student to step up to the plate for next season and try to continue the tradition. If someone keeps doing it eventually they are going to have to give in at some point and just let it happen.

Sorry I took so long to respond (gotta work for the "(wo)man"...which in this case is all of you, I guess. Civil Service FTW)

I'm really going to try to get him on here. He needs to see this, and I know he appreciates all the support (as do I, frankly). I was told to post that message, and elaborate a little more if questions were asked, so here goes.

The "circumstances beyond his control" is really just one person. Apparently there is one of the lead security people/Hilton staff (I'm not sure which) who's being pressured by someone higher up about it, probably for the safety reason mentioned - something about knocking a kid over the balcony. (For the record, the rest of the Hilton staff enjoys it). I believe she threatened to eject him from the game if he did it again (I'll double-check this one), so he's going to try to get Cy to run with him again to fend her off. (I suggested he light himself on fire when he got close to her, which amused both of us - "going out in a blaze of glory")

I am somewhat pleased to see that my absence has been noticed. As ornryactor (correctly) pointed out, I am on an internship in Houston, Texas this semester. I was able to drive up to College Station (fun being the only red shirt in a sea of white in their student section :biggrin9gp:) and Austin for the two Texas road games, and was a heartbeat away from flying back to Ames for the Kansas game (but when I went to go buy my plane ticket the price had increased from $490 the night before to over $1000, and in hindsight, there's no way I would have made it back with the weather that weekend). It's killing me that I can't be there, but I've got one more full year to go nuts, and I plan on making the most of it.

I'm kind of conflicted on carrying on the tradition. He said, "last Big XII game" because he's not graduating until next Fall, but running is more of a "Conference thing" - maybe he'll have one last hurrah for Iowa next year. I kind of want to keep it going after he leaves, but it is kind of "his thing", it was his way of trumping my title belt (we always try to outdo each other), so I'm hesitant to do it myself. If we're lucky, maybe we'll find a willing underclassmen to groom to keep it going.

In any case, both of us thank all of you for your support these last few years. Our #2 goal (right behind supporting ISU) is always to bring a smile to everyone's faces and hopefully make the games a little more fun for y'all. We're very glad to see you enjoy it.

Cheer him on for me tomorrow.

P.S. - Sorry for the long post.

That's awesome... you need to get a picture of it and post it. And SUPERFAN needs to collect some royalties!

I've got one. A friend sent it to me when the game came out (I hadn't seen it and nearly drove off I-35 when he told me).

I don't want royalties. It's enough of an honor just to be in the game.

Let me dig through and find it.
