China won at least ten medals in Shooting. By your logic, USA should have won 1000.
I wouldn't say the say the sport of shooting is that high up on the ESPN schedule in the US. Sure people have guns and like to shoot for a various amount of reasons, but the sport is about 100 down on the list of anyone caring.
It’s a God damn national embarrassment that the greatest gun owning country in the world isn’t winning the shooting competitions!!!!
true. maybe for the ones held in the US next time we can get everyone drunk, blare music and use hollow points during the competition.

just because you have a lot of guns doesn't mean you are good at shooting them :) half the gangs in Chicago unload 30 rounds in a gas station parking lot and manage to not hit anything.

I think it's interesting that people are like omg China got 5 gold's in Table Tennis, meanwhile we got 14 in track & field at 8 in swimming compared to China's 3, but because those sports are "popular" it's fine.

Feels like one and done for "Breaking". I can't remember such cringe reactions to a new sport, sometimes indifference but rarely second hand embarrassment. I'm guessing the smooth transition for "xgames" stuff like surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and climbing made some people overconfident with including it.

Climbing should be here to stay now and hopefully even bigger for LA. They improved the format slightly this year but lead climbing needs to be its own thing even if that means cutting bouldering or especially speed climbing. The last Olympics where they combined lead climbing and speed climbing would be no different than if they combined wrestling and weightlifting.

Feels like China benefited more in the Gold medal count by not having Russia competing than the US did going off last Olympics medals. China and Russia are both excellent in the niche sports.
I literally just realized Russia did not participate this year. I didn't think about them. I didn't miss them. Nothing, nada, zilch. Man, times haves changed!

I know I'm in the minority, but I really enjoyed watching breakin.

Even if it doesn't last, it's something new, something fresh, and IMO visually striking.

Technically I don't think Russia has participated as a nation for over a decade. For the last several Olympics their committee has been allowed to participate under the Olympic flag, but I don't think that even happened this time. Individual Russian athletes have been able to participate, but it has been essentially "Russia-free" otherwise.

And you're right - I didn't miss them.

Not exactly sure.
Okay, what is the deal with the gold spiky person on the closing ceremonies? I didn’t see the opening one, so it was part there I don’t know.

Heard one armed table tennis and then one eyed is going to be offered in2032! I think couch sitting( I said couch sitting) should be a medal sport! Not all activities are competitions.
I would like to see Ladder ball, Bags, Quarters, Beer Darts, Darts, Bowling, axe throwing, bocce ball, 3 legged sack race added for 2028.

This is just stupid. This is why I generally hate the scored sports. To much bull crap.

Yep, I enjoy the entertainment but no way in hell I'd have the capacity to compete in any judged sports. Michael Wilbon has some good rants about why he hates ice skating

Started watching the closing ceremony. Are psychedelics legal in France? Cause I feel like I’m watching someone’s acid trip in real life.

I will say that the French are very creative. its been interesting to watch the artistic part of the closing. The 2028 US Olympics will probably be Meg thee Stallion and Lizzo twerking for 45 mins.
