2024 B12 VB Pre-Season Poll and All-Conference Team

Nayeli Gonzalez is only ISU player named to preseason All B12 Team. I figured Maya Duckworth, Brooke Stonestreet and Morgan Brandt had chances to get on that team as well.

ISU is picked to finish at #6 but based on the distribution of 1st place votes and closeness of teams 1-7, the conference title race appears to wide open and maybe this is ISU's best chance to win their first VB conference title under CJL with UT now in the SEC:

Seems like Big 12 volleyball got more competitive with the addition of the new schools. That may have spread the votes around that might have previously gone to players like Duckworth.

Here is a CyCast with CJL. After listening to this and taking a look at rosters of teams voted ahead of ISU in the pre-season poll, you have to like the team's chances to compete for the conference title. Gonzalez, Brandt and Stonestreet are all at or near the top of the conference for their respective positions. Duckworth will be fully healthy after last season's issues with her hitting shoulder and post-season surgery on that. Wachholz will be better as the 3rd OH. The McCune, Jackson and AHW trio has the potential to be better at MB than last season's Hopp/Englebrecht duo. Paula K will be better at DS with another year of experience and VanGorp pushing her. Then you have DeRonde potentially getting in the rotation at OH and/or back row and Schmitt pushing to get into the OH rotation.

According to this, Pre-Season #18 Minnesota beat ISU 3-2 in yesterday's exhibition match. Very good showing by ISU IMO:

Pre-Season AVCA Top 25 National Poll is out. ISU is receiving votes. B12 teams ranked ahead of them include:

#13 KU
#16 BYU
#17 AZ State
#23 Baylor
TCU - 97 votes
Houston - 96 votes
KSU - 37 votes
ISU - 24 votes

Still think that ISU will end up being a conference title contender this season with yesterday's exhibition showing vs Minnesota providing some evidence of that.
